Oh to have xenon’s

Post by Bodyboarder » Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:21 pm

I presumed I had xenon’s but would appear I don’t :headbang:

Have DS2/H7 stamped on the headlight cover and headlight adjustment wheel on the dash … so pretty sore that Halogen lights ?

What bulbs are people using for a better light output / clearer ? It’s like driving with candle light compared to newer stuff !!

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

If you have the adjustment wheel on the dash it wasn't built with Xenons.

I've read that Osram Nightbreaker bulbs help, or Philips do a similar Halogen bulb.

Thankfully mine has Xenons. :)

I think all the 3 litres had the headlight washers.

If they operate on an unlit road you'll see even less!

I just pulled out Fuse 40 to disable them.

But then one of the jets started leaking last week and emptied the washer bottle. :o

So yesterday I disconnected the pipe from the headlamp washer pump and attached a short pipe with a bolt screwed in the end. :D

Even cars with Xenons don't need headlamp washers if registered before 2009.

The first thing I noticed with projector headlights and halogens was that I needed night vision goggles to get home (and I have excellent low light vision.)

I fitted a pair of 6500 lumen Bevinsee LED H7 in my halogen projectors and they are great. Lovely even spread, decent brightness, proper cutoff and goes straight thru the MOT. Required some H7 clips to hold them in but that was it. Later fitted some different ones in the high beam and even more pleased.

I also think that as our cars are so low, and lights have to be angled down slightly, they naturally light up less of the road ahead, as the beam has less chance to do it. If that makes sense. In contrast my work transits headlights are great, but they employ standard bulbs.

Nope, my E86 Si didn’t come with washers

Maybe it was just in the UK then. Both mine had them, even if one only had the Halogens.

Just had this conversation with a fellow forum member I met with over the weekend. Mine is an SI with Xenon but no headlight washers. Not complaining - have them and coded out on my F10. they just spew all over my clean hood and bumper.

Had Xenons on my last E85, but don't have them on this one. I had (wrongly) assumed they were fitted because of the washers (also a 3.0i), but figured it out while dealing with my headlight condensation woes.

I've ordered a set of Philips LED conversion bulbs, to see what they are like. Stay tuned.

Had the halogens too. Replaced them with a set of Osram LEDriving H7 bulbs, much to my satisfaction. Not as good as the xenon’s on my E91, but adequate especially given the cost involved

Looks so much better …. Do you have a link for the exact setup you got ? Also why did you go for LED and not HID ? Thank you

I got the LEDriving H7 bulbs from Osram for both dipped and main beam. You’ll need adapters: 64210DA06-1 and fettle them slightly for the dipped beam.

This over HID: cost. Simple as that. Besides, I had the Osram’s kicking around the parts bin for a while, so nothing to lose really. Installation is also even easier.
