Hi folks,
Am changing the wheels and tyres on my E86.
The car is lowered on Eibach Pros. Current rear setup is 9.5J ET 40 with 255/30/19.
The new wheels on rear are 9.5J ET35. The previous owner has been running 265/30/19.
I appreciate the 9.5J can easily take 265, but would it make an difference whether I went for 265 or 255?
Would going for a 35 profile be a complete no go?

I run a 10J ET40 but stuck with a 255/35 tyre. I’m lowered and have no rubbing at all.
No benefit of running a slightly wider tyre in my opinion. I also track my car

My current Z4 came with 19" CSL Replicas so 9.5J rears and 265/30 x 19 tyres and they were fine even with an 18mm drop on coil-overs, but I can't comment on the offset because mine is an MC.
Unless it's purely for aesthetic reasons I can't see the point of fitting wider rims without wider tyres especially as they also offer a little more protection for the rims!
You might be OK with a 265/35. I sold my CSLs because while they are great so many people have them. I went back to OEM 224s that normally have 255/40 x 18 rear tyres but I had 255/45s fitted for a bit more sidewall and they have been fine too. Plus they fill the arches a bit more.

Below is a screenshot of my current setup vs going 265/35 on the new wheels.
I guess I could get used to the speedo error. I note 16.25mm arch gap loss and that's what concerned me about potential rubbing. I'd prefer the 35 profile for a bit more sidewall / comfort, as the roads round here are shocking.
