aux + iphone 4 issue

Hey guys..
Since retrofitting the aux kit into my stereo a few weeks ago...when my iphone 4 is plugged in the aux option disappears and switches straight to fm sometimes. I racked my brain for weeks, but now realise it only happens when my iphone is also connected to the charger.

Does anyone know of a solution to this as I use my iphone for music and have the tomtom app too and really need it connected to both the aux input and charger at the same time!!

btw the charger is plugged into my cigarette lighter.

Thanks alot :)

Bump

Mines doing exactly the same now!

Although sometimes the aux input disappears altogether, others times its there when you cycle back through.

Any ideas folks?

mine also does this on my self built cable.... BMW in my opinion have done a stupid thing and used a resistor to 'detect' that the Aux lead is in (not the lead you see but the one behind the dash) there are also a couple of capacitors on the cable and when you ground the iphone this causes the issues. What may work which I intend putting in line behind the dash is a ground loop isolator as found here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GROUND-LOOP-ISOLATOR-STOP-BUZZING-NOISE-201-086-/170475884212?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3

they only very slightly degrade the sound (volume a little) so its a good work around..... I usually use them to get rid of noisy laptop power supplies when plugging into pro audio gear. I am pretty sure one of these should solve the issue with the iphones.

did you do this, and did it help ?

I use a charger that also provides line out, which doesn't do it. (line out is available via the dock connector at the bottom)

Added benefit is that it will sound better than headphone out, which on iPhones/iPods has been through an eq isn't meant to be amped - whereas the line out is meant to be amped.

Charger is called "liquid Aux" - not sure of current price, but there are cheaper ones without remotes, and have often seen them on offer for 15-20 quid on amazon

I use the dock connection with mine - still cuts out the audio if connected to cigarette lighter unfortunately.
