Been trying to find the exact instructions. Now I can install my dash cam on my own.

Don't use scotchlocks, they are rubbish.

Also, don't trap the earth under a random screw - one of the wires in the loom is an earth anyway so do it properly.

Followed this a good 12 months ago now, cracking write up thanks

I jumped stated a friends car earlier in the week using the Z4 and it appears I have knackered the 5v USB adapter...

It no longer powers the camera strangely. Dash cam still works as expected when reverting back to the power supply from the 12v cigarette lighter to back this up further.

I've not had a chance to have a look back up behind the light yet, at least the camera is still working!

I wired into the interior light, soldering onto the circuit board. Very easy to do and the camera stays live for about 30 minutes after the door is locked.

The light has a permanent positive feed and a switched negative. This is not an issue for the 5v converter and there’s plenty of room to fit the converter with some double sided tape.
Does anyone know which wires are the positive and switched negative. Basically trying to wire in a dash cam, I do not have the wiring loom to tap into. Only have four wires that go into the mirror. Please see attached files of the loom in my car, the white and purple to me looks like white and black. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Evening All,

can I ask people what types of Dashcams we are using? I was thinking about something discreet:

this style, not necessarily manufacturer

In my car and the wife’s we have Mio
Really small, work well and good features (gps, speed camera database that can be updated. etc)
Not particularly expensive. Think they were both around the £60-70 mark

I have fitted two Garmin Mini's into our main car (boring slow SUV). No GPS and speed etc but as a camera, they are excellent and super discreet. The phone software manages up to 4 cameras at the same time -- very clever stuff.

Strangely, I didn't install one in the E86 -- no idea why :)

In the Z4 I use the BMW supplied and fitted Advanced Eye 2
It seems to work well but it’s certainly not the cheapest option on the available options.

I have the 1st generation fitted to the 335 late 2017 and that one has gone on the blink!
(The screen to reformat the SD card will not respond and I cannot reset the time nor go back to factory settings - replacement cost £475)

Hi all,

Still unsure what colour wires are good to use?

The guide is great, but not sure on the colours?

Is there anyway to test?

Thanks in advance

Hi team, quick question
Do you use Dash Cam (mode on) during BMW Maintenance (BMW car garage).... ?
