Post by B21 » Fri Apr 14, 2023 4:14 pm

Any ideas on coding out the original BMW assistant ?

I’ve got SVS to not active in the MMI section of the CIC interface but….when I press the ‘speak’ button on the MFSW I get bot ‘her’ and Siri both ?

Any ideas ?

I've seen this before, because you have Bluetooth then you'll get the voice for that only, but not all the other features of Voice 620. Alas though I don't have the answer.

@anubiszed Finally getting around to this Mr. 12 Volt installation.

I'm kicking myself trying to remove the freakin glove box... I've followed your videos, and even have a diagram, but there's gotta be something I'm not doing... How hard is it to get this thing out? In your video, you are specific, but go over it quickly, missing pictures of the screw positions in the rear. I think I can almost recite your transcript from heart by now.

I've also looked at the BMW official picture which apparently was made by someone who intentionally wanted to piss on first timers.
Help?? Please!!! :surrender:

So I got a box put in by a third party. I tossed up between the Mr12v and going with their brand that was "tested".

My missos Samsung S21, doesnt work (could be her car, didnt work recently in a hire car) and I can connect, but only wired, it has no wireless android auto option. So question re the Mr12v, does that work in legit, proper, wireless Android Auto, or is it plug in only?

I'm using a s23 ultra with mr12volt fully wireless - works great.

Just pair with the box (1st time) and it fires straight up automatically from them on.

Very easy - highly recommended.

There are 4 under the lid (below the dash front trim)

And then one underneath

And that 'should' be it. Now at least that's the righthand drive version, there is a potential of other screws for things I'm not aware of, for instance don't forget the knee airbag!!

Yes Mr12volt does work wirelessly for both CarPlay and Android Auto, as long as the phone supports it, or in some cases the phone 'may' need "wireless Android Auto" activating, but I'm sure the S21 was one that should have had it from the start so this shouldn't be the issue.
Some older mmi boxes never had the wireless option and some only have wireless CarPlay for iPhones, and this is the same for factory headunits from some car manufacturers.

Now I will state what I say to everyone I've installed for....
While you are driving and wirelessly streaming music to the unit you are using battery power at a much greater rate than normal, so this is why I don't use this facility, as I'd prefer my phone to be charged. Now you can say "well plug it in and keep it charged", yes a great idea, so in that case why not just use the cable that comes with the MMI box! Although the MMI box wont really put all that much charge into the phone (ie; if it's almost dead to start with then it still will be at the end) but it'll keep it topped up.
I've fitted a desk charger (chopped to fit flat) in my centre console, it's fixed in place so I can just slot my phone in there as I drive. This is connected to the MMI box via the USB cable.

I'll give it another try tonight... and my put my 13-year-old to the task since he is naturally springy and not old and stiff in the back.
I usually just flip your images to make them relevant for LHD :) Your support is much appreciated.

Does the knee airbag cover that is hiding those two screws actually release to be removed? I can pull it back a bit but don't want to permanently bend it.

I'm trying to remember a conversation regarding this knee airbag from a few years ago now, I seem to remember that that person had to remove the airbag before he could remove the glovebox, but alas I can't find the conversation. Looking at the photos of the airbag I see that it is wider than the panel below so I'm assuming it covers a bigger area than the non-airbag version.

** If removing the airbag I'd always recommend disconnecting the battery negative terminal for at least 15 minutes prior to disconnecting the electrical plug. Also DO NOT shut the trunk while the battery is disconnected!!

AS a matter of interest....
To save you removing the knee airbag and glovebox, have you considered placing the MMI box in the space behind the air-con controls (timestamp 24:29 in my video)? Doing this means you don't have to remove the glovebox at all.

I think that's growing on me... I'll take some pictures of the result. I finally disconnected the legacy phone cabling while the center console was disconnected. I'll probably thread the USB back under the center for a future dock mod you've approached.
