Re-welding cracks

I was about to refurbish a set of MV4 19" wheels my sister had bought as a second set, and found one of the rears had a crack previously welded which has cracked again through the weld.

I spoke to the refurbisher currently dealing with some MV2s of mine and as a matter of policy they won't re-weld a crack. Is this normal practice ?
Many thanks.

It’s probably more that you don’t want to weld in a place that was previously welded, the microstructure localised around the weld area gets affected by heat, this is known as heat affected zone (HAZ) and can make the local area more brittle.

Many thanks Sars. That makes sense and is something along the lines the chap said. I guess that wheel is scrap then.....

Unfortunately this may well be the case… I’ve recently had both rear 326M alloys welded and one of those failed again (different place) before it got to the MoT centre, which has meant replacing the wheel. The other one is holding up so far tho. A
