Audi A2

Okay, so the Zed sold to my brother on the same day I found out the buyer of our house pulled out last minute. Great timing. Meant I was left without my pride and joy Zed (I couldn't renege on the sale to my brother as he had his heart set on it), and we put the house back on the market sharpish.
Fast forward a month and we found another buyer, so the move is technically all back on to the place we wanted since May. The sellers have been great and kept this alive for us. We just need to hurry up the purchaser of our place so we can be in for mid-November.
But this all meant I was without a second car. Cue a visit to my bucket list. You won’t find 30-ish sports and supercars on that list. It’s a lot more eclectic than that (think Suzuki Carry, E46 325i, VW Lupo GTI), but one stood out as rare, practical (for the move) and with some great reviews on handling, if not power.
As the title suggests I bought a late 2004 Audi A2 1.4SE petrol on 107k miles, in Dolphin Grey and with platinum fabric SE seats, since swapped out for blue sports seats. The Bose Audi hifi is incredible, and being virtually all aluminium space frame construction, she gets me some very decent mpg too. It’s like driving a small minibus (in a good way) and when you rev her out and unleash all 75bhp…or thereabouts… then she goes pretty well on a B Road too.
So ahead of its time, still looks modern but rare as hens teeth on the road and a real sense of occasion when driving. The step down in immediate power from the 3.0 took a little getting used to, but I think we’re aligned now.
So far, I’ve done the seats (rears easily come out for van mode) and have a cambelt and waterpump service done. Also got a copy of VCDS on an old laptop too should I need to investigate and VAG lights that get thrown at me. Next up, new clutch and enjoy!
Not sure how long she’ll last with me, and once moved I’ll assess things again, but for now I think it’s an interesting little thing.
