Brake Lights

Post by RKM » Tue Nov 21, 2023 6:07 pm

2005 E85
Have light bulb warning light on dash staying on when I start up. Goes off when I tap the brake pedal. I'm guessing that one of the brake light bulbs is on its way out. Any way to diagnose which one at this point or do I just wait for failure?
Thanks

I think a scan with a code reader might indicate which bulb/light unit is at fault.

May I suggest;

Start up
Step out
Check bulbs
Replace the culprit
Happy days :driving:

If you need to test the brake lights, put something mildly heavy on the brake pedal and step out (I used a box of freshly delivered car parts to test :D )

I put my phone on video behind the car then press the brake pedal

Or if you have a Ring doorbell, stick that on live and reverse close enough to see it!

I had an intermittent bulb gone dash lamp recently. It was one of the rear brake lights and the filament was still in place but the bulb overall was very burnt looking. All fine following a new one from Halfords though.
