Tint top windscreen option

Post by jenniferlouise » Thu Jan 11, 2024 1:49 pm

So I’ve been thinking… does anyone have fitted to their E89 a retro 80s style tint top windscreen? Wondering if it was ever standard, or an option, or an aftermarket solution from any of the reputable replacement ’screen companies ? And, before you smarties chip it with it, I am not interested in a ‘Steve and Sharon’ vinyl strip for £5 from eBay 🙄

Any pics would be great too. Apologies if this has cropped up before, but when searching the topics I couldn’t find anything… ☀️😎

With the glare from my bonnet, I could do with a bottom one, too.

Hiya

It was option 3AP “Windscreen with grey shade band” £70. Built into the actual windscreen and had a gradient effect to it.

When I moved from Audi to BMW I was surprised that is was an option and not standard on BM’s plus that not many went for it, personally I find it super useful.

But as per the fleabay suggestion I’d try that first :)

at last, a sensible reply (altho every reply is cherished). Interesting that it was an option. You’d think more would take it at £70… my screen has some damage so I was simply considering whether there’s an option for a tint top (or bottom) replacement… sounds like there may be…

as for eBay vinyl. You know that ain’t happening. I’ll save that for the mkIV Cortina

Can’t say that will always be the case but I know some things at least lol

I had my screen replaced late summer last year (car had the original 10 year old screen) it was like having a 4K TV after a 480i, sadly I completely forgot to push the replacement company to fit a top tint version :headbang:

Fingers crossed you get it sorted with one … otherwise we’ll look forward to the font you choose for your lovely vinyl :P

And one from inside, to be fair the tint seems more prominent on camera then it does in reality:
