If that's what you think!
To me it was someone suggesting you go somewhere and me wanting to point out you may want to tread carefully.
Hey ho, away you go!
I said that as I don't want it to turn into a Zshed debate. I know there are some robust opinions about that place. :D

I saw this..

And after an eye watering quote from BMW, and 3 so called specialists saying they "don't wish to take it on" I'm booked in next week. Nothing to lose and potentially a lot to save.

Yes, booked in for Wed. Had a long convo and Mike is confident he can repair it whilst I wait. Bmw have quoted me circa £2000 note I haven't told him that!

If Mike at the Zed Shed is fixing E89 roofs reliably without ripping people off, then he has got to be worth a shot IMO. IIRC the issues some had with him in the past were nothing to do with E89 roofs.

It seems it's him or Robbi realistically; and obviously Robbi is in Germany!

Steve...You could look to get the car trailed to them (or wherever) and back. There is a really good transport guy near Kings Lynn who is reliable and not too costly. NG Vehicle Logistics (Neil). Worth a few phone calls IMO.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold

It's a hell of a way from Norfolk. I'll get the car MoT'd soon and then make a decision what to do next.

It will cost you around £500 for a return journey on a transporter. Then whatever the shed charge.

2 1/2 hours of a BMW dealership messing about without a clue will cost that!

Mine is being transported there one way, then I'm going to pick it up via train a few days later when it's done - Been assured it can and will be repaired, BMW charged me near £180 just to "plug it in" and tell me "we can't see any faults in the roof system sir"...

There is no trailer required.

This roof shell can be lowered and you can drive with that car even without this roof shell is beeing locked.

Only 2 simple steps to success:
1) Pin 12 method to get the trunk opened, alternatively your Foxwell tool.
2) Open the brass screw on the hydraulic pump located to the front of the car for max. 2 turns. Then move the shell backward with support of another person. That's it.

Just do it!

Here's a thread from 2021 with photos of how to replace hall sensors.

Could you get a local auto electrician to do it?

No. I wish it was because then I would have more chance of fixing it myself.

It is like this now but the roof is not latched. You can see the gap in the photo. Is there a video to show how to manually get the roof to a position that I can easily get to the microswitch / wiring?

Do you know which sensor / microswitch is bad? If not you will need a scanner like the Foxwell, Protool or ISTA to troubleshoot.

... and be sure that the fault code " roof shell 2 closed" never requires the replacement of this microswitch! And there are additional pitfalls with other misleading roof fault codes.

Then it's probably a broken wire...
