BMW Z4 - Looking to purchase - South West of UK

Post by Southall07 » Sat Mar 30, 2024 10:22 pm

Hello, first time on here ! I'm going to be selling my Mx5 Mk2 & hopefully purchasing a BMW z4 soon.

I'm looking for a z4 in black for anything less than 10k and near the South west - I don't mind traveling around a couple hours from Exeter.

There are a few requirements I'm looking for so the below is as follows :
- Less than £10,000
- Less then 90k miles
- Black or white
- Coupe
- Manual or auto

As an ex MX5 / Eunos (NA) owner, I can sympathise with your comments regarding soft tops, mine was a vinyl one which had shrunk to such an extent over the years I used to have to sit on top of the roof to get it shut!
I've had my E85 for over eight years now and the roof (I believe it has five layers of material in it) is still as watertight as the day I bought it.
It's a daily driver and is kept outside all the year round.
If you do get tempted to buy another soft top, see if you can get one which has already had the motor relocated to the boot area.
Personally, I would also recommend going for a six pot engine as this was one of the best things I experienced from moving on from the Mazda.
Good luck with your search.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've only had Z4 Coupes because I fell in love with how they look years before I got one, and then found out how well they drive. :)

As Roberltd2 said a straight 6 engine is one of the Z4s unique features.
Coupes because stunning!

- Coupe or normal z4 but prefer coupe
Then you can have an E85 (1st gen Roadster) with an optional removable hard top, an E86 (1st gen and only true Coupe), or an E89 (2nd gen folding hard top). All are within reach of your budget, but all are very different cars.

E86 coupe is sublime, and rare on UK roads, but there are quite a few for sale in your price range, if not your geography.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.

Welcome to the forum. :) Serial Mx5 owner here. On the subject of soft tops. The one on the Z4 is very good and hard wearing, just make sure the motor is in the boot or move it there, on any E85.

Also the soft top and the mx5 mk4 is way better than previous versions. I'll get the police on me for recommending another Mx5 though, so don't any one read that bit.

Cheeky
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Well I'm obviously biased but I'd say that's an excellent choice!

And a lot more 3.0Si Coupes came to the UK than 3.0Si Roadsters, although there were only 2,189 Coupes registered here so you might need to travel, be patient or get lucky.

White is also pretty rare, but there are quite a few different blacks to choose from. It might be worth deciding whether you want a Sport with the desirable M-Sport seats or the SE, although some SEs had them as an option.

Spec is weird too. All Coupes had headlight washers and electric seat adjustment with drivers' memory, but things like Bi-Xenons, rear parking sensors, cruise, heated seats and Multi-Function Steering Wheel were all options. So a list of "must haves" and "nice to haves" could be a plan.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.

This does not meet several of your requirements… not least of which it is the wilds of Scotland. Also I’m possibly shooting myself in the foot, as it’s my car in the link above

But I spotted this on the Z4 forum Facebook for sale page and it looks a rare beast, One owner for 17 years and full service history, it has clearly been cherished. I couldn’t work out how copy a link so here are a couple of screen prints to give you an idea… there are lots of other photos and it shouldn’t be hard to find if you at least want to have a look at the advert.
