Mapped thermostat cooling control error code

Post by Old-Duckman » Mon May 06, 2024 9:18 pm

I had some mapped cooling code last fall (not sure of the exact wording of that one) and fuel milage was dropping noticeably. The car (2004 E85, M54, 3.0L) has 65K miles. Bought a BMW thermostat and a Beck Arnley water pump. Replaced both about a week or so ago and after around 200 miles I got the code listed in the subject line.

Used new BMW blue coolant 50/50 mix, bled out fine, no air pockets, temperature gauge never went past 12 O'Clock. No leaks, not losing coolant. However I have not heard the fan cycle on since the replacement. Fuel milage was 24-ish to 25-ish MPG before new thermostat, after new thermostat has gone up to 28 MPG even.

Also got a misfire cylinder 3 code (that one is new) and the DMTL leak which I get now and again, reset and ignore.

Someone told me to pull the connectors and clean with contact cleaner. Searched another forum and they mentioned the sensor in the lower radiator hose, I replaced that about a year or so ago with a BMW brand sensor.

Any ideas/help?
