Z4M OEM Disc Specs

Post by gidge2010 » Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:12 pm

Hi All,

Was trying to dig out the specs (thickness new, minimum thickness etc) for Z4M discs etc, anyone on here have the details handy?

Fronts

Believe these are 27.9mm new & 26.4 minimum, what kind of guidelines are best followed ... is it a good idea to run all the way down to minimum 26.4 before changing.

Last check on mine were 27.25 and 27.16 on the fronts, so almost halfway.

Rears, I couldn't locate the details .... anyone know the specs for these?

the thickness new is 28mm.

keep an eye on the rotors, when they start to develop a decent lip they need changing.

Mine have quite a pronounced lip. Trying to hold on for my service which is in 6k. Might borrow a gauge and measure them if those minimum specs are correct.

Thanks, I also generally keep my eye on any substantial lip developing, these have hardly anything noticeable .... I had the car in at BMW a while ago and was told they'll need replacing soon! ... obviously either trying it on or have an odd concept of soon :-)

Rears are 18.4mm minimum .. I again, found the E86 Z4 M Coupe Specs.pdf that floats around the forums.

I measured my fronts about a month ago (33k miles) and found they were at 27.4mm thickness. I can definitely feel a lip on each rotor.

Replacement comes when they measure at 26.4. They are about 50% used so I'd expect them to last another 20-30k miles. No sense in buying rotors so soon.

Maybe Turner motorsport (US). BMminiparts usually do the rotors cheap enough.

I do like searching on there for any bargains (for both the Z4 and M5) and did spot a fire extinguisher for £250+vat and a £800 lock repair kit (for the lock internals). I assume both of these are errors, as the Fire Extinguisher is about £50 from a dealer and the lock kit is about £30, but it pays to make sure you don't take it for granted that they're the cheapest for everything :P

I'd also suggest buyers read their T&Cs for warranty terms of stock parts vs ordered (& full price) parts:
www.bmminiparts.com wrote:10. WARRANTY
a. Goods supplied by New Car Parts Ltd own stock do not come with any form of warranty. We will however accept returns if the item is faulty.

b. We do not take liability for faulty parts supplied by suppliers. However these parts do come with a full BMW Warranty.

c. All ‘Price Finder Special Ordered’ parts are covered with BMW’s full warranty specific per part.

d. If Goods become faulty during the period of the Warranty we will be able to supply you an invoice for warranty purposes.

e. Should the purchased ‘Price Finder Special Ordered’ part become faulty the car needs to be booked in with your chosen BMW dealer for a warranty diagnostic check. New Car Parts Ltd will have a copy of the invoice faxed to your chosen dealership. This warranty claim cannot be claimed unless the part is on the car when the fault is present. Once BMW have established the fault the part will replaced free of charge. However if this part is not faulty there will be a charge from the dealer diagnosing the fault.

f. New car parts Ltd are unable to provide refunds for parts purchased as ‘Price Finder Special Ordered’ parts that are percived to be faulty. See 10.e.

Found some posts on bimmer world that say that hubs should be stamped with the minimum thickness measurement of 26.4mm

Measured mine today and they are at 26.79, so working out a rough disk wear over the last 10k I think I have about 5k miles left.

I also found a really useful file which has all the torque settings when working on the car.

What does your rotors say about the minimum thickness? It is stamped on all rotors.

From what I remember seeing on my rotors when I was doing brake maintenance before a track weekend in Feb, was the 26.4mm fronts and 18.4mm rear.
These numbers are also in the TIS. You cannot machine these rotors.

Edit: Same for both M Roadster and Coupe'.
