Nav retrofit question.

Ok, I installed the Navigation retrofit and now according to the Install guide I have to encode/program my car. I went to the dealership and they said it might take up to 10 hours to encode. Is that a BS?
And do I have to do it at all??? I works fine now. What would it change?
Thanks.

I havent done mine yet but PVR has done two, and IIRC didnt need re coding.

Do you have the template for the monitor cutout?

any change yo could scan and send to me.

thanks

It's not hard. It just takes time to do it. And you should have proper tools to cut the dash out. It helps if you have TIS too.

Thanks guys! I've decided not to encode. I have one Q though. Is there a way to make voice commands? For instance you would say 'Radio' and it would switch to radio...etc.

Not possible to use voice control.

I found my Swiss army knife saw blade perfect for the cutting in the dash

yikes!! out of interest i just googled and came up with this !! BMW retrofit documentation says its 4.0 ~5 hours

http://www.bmwnav.es/~kamala/Eba/E85%20Z4%20-%20EBA%20Reequipamiento%20navegador%20profesional%20en%20ingl%E9s.pdf

Two hours to fit everything and 4 - 5 hours to finish the cutting of the hole it was for me for both occasions.

It took me 5 hours to cut that hole, and another 5 to run the wiring. Pain but absolutely worth it
Too bad the are no voice commands.

BTW, that is the best way to integrate my Ipod? I have Dice now, but it doesn't work properly with the navigation. Is there a different version of Dice for the nav?

I got the Intravee unit - works beautifully and is the best if you have a nav unit. Look at my fitting instructions for that one :D
