Airbag ECU has died

Right so my airbag control module has died!

So I got one from eBay which came out an 03 2.5i so made the assumption it would be fine for my 03 3.0i...... I was wrong and now the seller won't reply to my messages for me to return it :headbang:

Does anyone know of such a module anywhere? My local indie is also searching and can't find one.

My MOT is in March and this would be a failure

Here's a pic of mine

HELP!

What are you trying to do? Do the modules have the same part number.

If it is the right module for you car (as both the 2.5 and 3.0 share the same module), you can't just slot it in and expect it to work. It needs to be coded to your car using your VIN and some other details. This can be done at home using the right diagnostic software (NCS Expert and Tool32) or you'll need to pay for the privilege.

All is not lost.

My local indie have been working on it for me, they tried reprogramming the original but that didn't fix it, they then re-coded the one I purchased but that wouldn't accept my VIN.

Where are you based? I had one coded to my car that was originally from a left hooker. Quarry motors in Sheffield, half an hour and £30 after every other Indy told me it couldn't be done!

They're probably not doing it right then. I don't have experience of coding the airbag module but I've done it on the LCM with no issues. You need more than the VIN I seem to remember, Slough I dont have the working software for that anymore so I forget the specifics.

Based on the above, you've bought the right module so what would the seller accept a return?

The pic is of the original out my car not the one I got from ebay, and on the sellers page it says he accepts returns minus a restocking fee. my indie said it was a different model, none of the numbers match on them (see pic below)

my original is on the right

According to the system I have, the part numbers are exchangeable retrospectively.

http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/65776938264

If you click on the "I" next to the Old Part Number, go back a few generations and you get to the other module you have there. In other words, the one you've bought is a previous generation module (from 2002) but is workable.

I'm not clear if "Exchangeable retrospectively" means only one way (i.e. you can only go for a newer module, not an older one), but the modules are both from compatible vehicles.
