Facelift Z4 Sport 2.0 Newbie

Post by cossie » Sun Mar 06, 2016 8:13 pm

Hi all

Have just begun my Z4 ownership - got myself a lovely car that I am really pleased with

Already making use of the site (as I always do when I get a new car) will be refurbishing my steering wheel controls with palstidip soon (as per post on here)

This is my first Z4 but fifth BMW so hoping for an easy ownership!

Oh I am in Manchester UK before I forget

All the best

Paul

Looks very nice indeed (apart from one small detail which I'll let others mention....)

You obviously had better weather today than we did just a bit further south.

That will either be the M badge at the bck or the fact its only a four pot!

I have just taken the M badge off the front as I didn't like it (looked tacky) and will be doing the same with the rear

Insofar as the four pot is concerned - I have just come from three x 6 cylinders (last one E46 Clubsport) and got sick of filling with fuel!

Yes iits been strangely pleasant in Manchester today for a change!

Ha ha - thanks pal (the title does save me a little as it only says Sport and not M Sport!! - and in true blameless fashion "It was like that when I bought it!!")

Hi and welcome.

Nice pics of a great looking Zed.

As you're already removing them I won't mention the unmentionables!

Enjoy :driving:

Hi and welcome.

Don't use plastidip on the steering wheel, it will come off too easily. Go straight for a Matt black paint.

It was your post I read - albeit just page 1 - already ordered it now but having read the remainder what I plan to do is just use that for the raised button area (which will get less wear)

Thanks for the tip and the how 2

I loved my 4 pot - fabulously smooth and free-revving engine. It will have a rough tickover though (they all do) and I found the spacing between 2nd and 3rd a challenge but if you keep it wound up in these gears it can be great fun on the road and (as you say) more economical than a 6 pot - definitely.

Even though I've got a 6 pot now I still think the 2.0 litre is under-rated. We've got some great drivers on the forum and I know they have surprised a few with the capabilities of their 4 pots on the road.

They are known to crack the exhaust manifold sometimes (mine didn't) though my specialist independent said he would simply weld mine if it ever happened. They also are known to throw up engine management lights mainly due to over sensitive sensors. Buy yourself a plug in reader and reset them - it's often enough for a time as they can be frustrating to sort out.

Otherwise - enjoy the twisties!

Thats very informative and reassuring thanks Paul. I have BMW DIS from my previous cars so can code read and program at my leisure. Worked a treat to get the car out of transport/transit mode (the battery was flat and it knocked the heated window and blower fan out of kilter) all reset and done whilst I viewed the car).

I don't overly drive too fast anyway I simply like the looks and the lines of the car so this is ideal for me!

Thanks again

Paul
