Hello from Leamington Spa
Hi all,
At some point in the next few months, I'm considering getting an early Z4 roadster, so thought I'd sign up now and introduce myself.
Car history contains an MX5, a 300ZX TT, a 350Z, an a 335i coupe. Have been on owners clubs forums for most of these - though not the BMW forum, too general!
However my main passion in life is trackdays - so far have had 5 track cars, all bmw 3 series (2x E36 328is, an E46 330ci, and 2x E46 328is) and have probably done 30 odd trackdays now, all over the country (being in the midlands means everything is a two hour drive away)
which leads me onto a z4 - my current daily is a 330d auto saloon, which is great for the commute, but I miss the excitement of a 2 seater. And my track car is getting on a bit, and I want something more focused and a bit faster. So my plan is ditch the 328i, buy a tidy E85 Z4 3.0, swap my track wheels on and do more trackdays! and added bonus me and my wife would have a fun weekend convertible.
That's all for now - still a few months away from a purchase as the current track car is still going (though its overdue a mechanical failure of some kind!) but i'll definitely be looking through the classifieds here at some point.
All the best,
Brillo

Hello from Leamington Spa
Welcome to the forum Brillo - I believe the Zeds make great track day cars, there are several members who partake.
Good luck with your search, why not post some pics of your current and previous 3 series cars

Hello from Leamington Spa
thanks for the welcomes! yes I figure an extra 40 bhp compared to what I track and the moment, in a slightly lighter package should be good. my 328i saloon is stripped as much as I can inside, but at the end of the day its still a family saloon, whereas a Z4 is a focused sportscar. little bit concerned that the slightly shorter wheelbase might make it a little harder to oversteer, but frankly a 4 yr old could drift a saloon, I'd enjoy the challenge!
here are some of the previous cars... no points for guessing the circuits!

Hi and welcome Brillo - great photos!
At least when you get a Z4 won't have to strip rear seats out.
Please let us know when you get one (and don't forget photos).

Does anyone local have Carly? was considering buying the app and dongle just to code a couple of things, but if I can borrow one in exchange for a pint or two, everyone wins

Hello from Leamington Spa
well as suspected, the old 328i (the last one in my photos above) wasn't long for this world. on its 9th trackday I suspect it jumped a tooth or two on the timing chain (or something - I'm no mechanic!) so after getting it transported home, its been sold on ebay for £160.
so now its definitely next stop Z4! ideally looking for an early, moderate mileage, manual 3.0, and the only essential is cruise control. theres a decent looking one on autotrader for £4200, so will probably be spending around that much. but will also be scouring the for sale thread on here, expect to make a purchase before Christmas. looking forward to it already, been a few years since I last had a 2 seater, and even longer since I last had a convertible.
