Good to be back out on a recce . . . .
Been so busy and distracted that we haven't been able to get out as often as we'd like in the M but with the weather looking ok this week and things having settled down (Oh I wish I hadn't said that ) we planned to get out and check a few ideas and areas for future runs. Along the way of course I was able to enjoy the M and we had a terrific run to Alston from the A69 nearly traffic free - at a time like that the M feels wonderful and really flows. We took a right before Hartside (shock horror from all that know me ) and set off for the Roman Wall calling in at Carlisle airport to see if my microlight instructor was about.
Couldn't resist taking a few shots with the heavy metal which is part of the museum there. . . .
We were pretty sure that one or two of the single track roads we explored wouldn't suit - especially where the cattle were all over the road - wonder if it's possible to get a hoof mark out of a panel
Lots of Roman wall left to see (and much of it in the buildings and farms all about the wall )
Glorious countryside all about us but the forecast clear skies had obviously missed the early BBC pronouncement Nevermind we found what we were looking for - this stunning location created by the Romans through quarrying . . . .
So 150 miles and the M was excellent, even when just plodding about taking in the surroundings.
Yep, it was a lovely way to spend a day

Well, it's taken me a long time to bond with the M but today there were some fabulous moments on the road to Alston but then, you know about that don't youmr wilks wrote:Looks like a good day ///M roadstering Paul , have to say my Si experience in Wales at weekend has me reconnected with the 85s & seriously considering a ///M as my next Z move
Thanks Alan. It's part of Solway Aviation Museum at Carlisle Airport - be quick as it's only open to the end of October. It's an interesting small museum with some stuff covering Spadeadam and UK Rocket research. If you pick your day you can get aboard the Vulcan (and some of the other exhibits).metal licker wrote:Nice to see you back out on the road again Paul

Wow, that's amazing markeg! Brilliant! They open the Vulcan and allow folk to climb into the pilot's seats - I'm sure they'd love to have you (or your Dad) up there to visit and perhaps get some of the history and background which involves your Dad.markeg wrote:XJ823 was my father's plane when he was on 27 Sqn in Scampton in the 70's - now I know where it ispaulgs1000 wrote:

Yeah, my Dad took me into the plane when I was a lot younger (and smaller ) - just remember it as being very cramped and full of equipmentpaulgs1000 wrote:Wow, that's amazing markeg! Brilliant! Great pics Paul. Sounds as though the 'Roamin' with the Romans' meet is taking shape.
