V10 M5!
I love the sound of the straight 6 in my Z4, but I also like the sound of a V8 and wouldn't mind a V12.
But after yesterday I need to add a V10 to my list of desirable sound-tracks!
An M5 in light blue pulled out of a side road some way ahead of me. Half a mile or so on we stopped at a red light, then went under a railway bridge where I usually indulge my inner child by muting the stereo, dropping the driver's window and gunning it! But yesterday I left out the last bit to hear that V10 - sound porn!
Followed it a couple of miles until it turned into a filling station - probably a fairly frequent event.
But as well as sounding fantastic, it also stood out somewhat! As I was on my own I couldn't get a video or photo, but ignoring the stickers it looked like this one:-

V10 and V12 are indeed the best sounding engines.
As far as V10's go, the M5 is one of the best (porsche carrera GT sounds even better, but thats 150 times the price...)
The m5 is certainly the most affordable car with such an exclusive sound.
And with an eisenmann exhaust there's only one thing better...
2 m5's with eisenmann exhaust

I love the sound of the (S62?) V10, so tempted to buy an M6 coupe, purely for the soundtrack, truly epic at full throttle, 507bhp and 200mph de-restricted, both M5 and M6 V10s at the current prices a performance bargain surely. How long can I hold off and be sensible...

I wish I had a pot of money, a good workshop and decent spannering/fabrication skills - V10 into Z4 would provide some excitement.

You need more than 'decent' skills for that (but that pot of money goes a long way )
So that makes buying them from a private seller risky...?
(bmw warranty is I guess buying it at a dealership?)
Was it a rodbearingissue (you could do/calculate that in when buying a used one) or does this engine have another frequent issue that can cause having to swap the engine?

Bottom end i think it was, even with warranty it took ages for BMW to approve it, all invoices all purchases, repairs etc had to be documented. It's a common issue too, quick Google will reveal it. And bmw warranty is far from cheap on one, especially over 60k miles. His was 86k with full service etc. I'd love one but the scary bills put me off, to a point where I'd rather an f10 at this stage. Especially with them depreciating like nothing I've seen before!GuidoK wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2017 12:13 amYou need more than 'decent' skills for that (but that pot of money goes a long way )

I came so close to buying an M6 instead of the 911- still feel like scratching the itch but reliability did worry me a tad when reading horror stories. BUT. the thing was just relentless in acceleration in M mode.
If it felt a little more sporty instead of wafty it'd be a no brainer! Such monsters.
