On the look out for a Manual Z4 3.0si Roadster (track)

Post by Pp2014 » Wed May 22, 2024 1:08 pm

I have been to a few track days with my car (2014 Audi R8 V10 plus) and I have picked up the bug. However, last weekend, I had a near miss when someone nearly crashed into my car.

I am now thinking about getting a dedicated track car and specifically a BMW Z4 3.0si Roadster. Why? Because, I used to have one and always regretted selling it. I believe it would make a great track car...the search has started.

Check out the cars for sale section. I think there are two si convertibles listed near the top.

Welcome to the forum - at last!

I can understand your concern about taking your R8 on track - it's easy to end up in someone else's accident. A mate of mine said years ago he wouldn't take any car on track that he couldn't afford to walk away from if it got binned, and that struck me as good advice.

But 3.0Si Roadsters are pretty rare so you might need to be patient/willing to travel as it seems only 695 manual ones were registered in the UK, so they're almost as rare as M Roadsters. :o

Good luck anyway.
Coupes because stunning!

For a track car this may be worth a look:

Thank you all for the reply...time to go and test drive a few cars.

I am not in a hurry so will try to find a car with a few mods (lsd would be nice).

Ok...went to see a car yesterday and was a bit disappointed...the car did not seem to handle properly. There a lot of flex in the chassis...I am now starting to wonder if the coupe is a better option...

You won’t be disappointed with a coupe

If you noticed a lot of flex whilst driving on the road then there was probably some more serious, underlying issue with that car. I track my roadster and while I will admit its not as stiff as the coupe, BMW really put a lot of work into making sure its stiff enough for track work. Something that can really help the roadsters is strut braces (both front and rear), did this example have any?

EDIT: But if its primarily for track use, I would probably opt for the coupe also.

You may be correct about the underlying issues with the car I went to see...I may have a look at another car and will also check out a coupe
