How do I remove door panel?

Post by demon8991 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 4:20 pm

I need to get into my door so I can see if it is time to replace the regulator.

I have taken the screw out from behind the lock and airbag plastic pull out but can't figure out hopw to get the rest off.

Thanks guys

1 screw on inside door opener
2 screws on inside door handle

Here's the instructions from the TIS:

As for the special tool, I managed to prise off with my fingers.

The TIS is well worth a bookmark

If you got all the torx out inc the one Greeno mentions, then it pulls straight away from the door. Not up or down. I find it easiest to put my fingers between the door card and door right at the top and lever off the lcip nearest the rear first then work to the front.

Yer did that!

Managed to get it off in the end just couldn't believe how much force you needed to get the top bit off!

Next problem was the foam insulator stuff oh my god I cannot believe the stuff they stuck it on with got half of it off then gave up.

The reason I am doing it, is because the windows sounds really gravelly going up and down and doesn't quite go all the way up and I can't figure out if the regulator is on the way out or it has a load of rust in it!

Does that sound like regulator symptoms?

Out of interest where do you get a new membrane from?

Also does it come with the sticky stuff needed for it to be secured again?

New membrane is from BMW and will cost you about 20 quid - they aint called stealers for nothing.

I used silicon to hold it back on - easier to remove that the black stuff as i am intent on doing some lighting mods sometime soon and it is waterproof.

then i gaffa tapped round it for a belt and braces approach.
