Anyone fitted a re-trimmed Royal steering wheel?

Post by Marlon » Tue Jul 07, 2015 9:11 pm

Hi, has anyone swapped their wheel for a re-trimmed one from Royal Wheels?
Mine arrived today and I thought I would simply remove the air bag (after disconnecting battery and waiting 20 mins) then unclip the three connectors and remove the centre nut and swap in the newly re-trimed wheel. But actually the re-trimmed wheel doesn't include the centre plate with the connectors, how easy it to swap the centre plate and connectors and earth from the original wheel onto the re-trimmed wheel? (mine is a facelift car and doesn't have the multi-function buttons or paddles). Thanks

Hi Marlon, Its very easy - just unscrew the three (i think its 3) silver screws on the plate then screw into the new wheel - it literally is unscrewing and screwing in

Hi Andrew, I noticed that there is an earth wire too and that the three screws don't look like your standard philips of flat head type?
Cheers

The three screws are "spline" sockets, not Philips.

Thanks guys, will take off the airbag again and have another go after work ( need to buy a 'spline' socket set on way home!)

I've bought a spline socket set, will have a crack at it on Sunday hopefully (don't know what a T10 is)

What did you get done wheel-wise?

I'm getting one done as we speak, heading to his on Monday to fit it and give him my old wheel

Had nappa leather - perforated sides and red stitching, looks fantastic. Can't wait to fit it. If I lived closer I would have done what you are doing. What are you going for?

You'll love it. Such a difference to how the car feels when driving.

Pretty much the same as you. With extra padding and M stitching.
