First ESS Supercharged N52 Z4 dynoed
So finally I got dyno graphs for my 2006 3.0Si Coupe
The graphs show before and after supercharger install.
This is stage 1+ at 5psi and with upgraded fuel pressure sensor. Very happy with the numbers and the linear graph

Looks fantastic.
Out of interest, as someone who previously had a M54 ESS kit, I always read the N52 wouldn't hold boost when they first came out, including a conversation with ESS back in 2007 ish. Have you done anything internally?
What sort of 'charger is it, twin screw like the M54? (away to ESS website).

No, the engine has original Internals. The boost is only 5psi, so it should be safe. It has original injectors, so this is the limit for the kit. They are maxed now. That is why they have upgraded the fuel pressure, so they could boost 1psi more for the stage 1+. It's not a twin screwgwatson wrote:Looks fantastic.

Are different injectors not an option?bmwZ wrote:

Afaik the n52 already runs at a high fuel pressure. 5 bar or something like that? More than the m54 (3,5 bar).
Maybe they want to keep cost a bit down.
70whp is an healty upgrade though.
Still 30Nm of extra torque too, so in the lower revs it should still be noticeable.

I hope so, but yours still much faster:)Beedub wrote:holy moly thats guna be fast.......
I don't think I can tune the n52 engine for more hp with stock internals. Hans at ESS said they had tested out a N52 engine at 12psi and different injectors. After some testing, the engine got one broken piston. But the engine pushed over 400hp with that setup. So I think it would be safe for my engine to just push 5 psi

So the failure wasn't the block or the liners? Interesting, VAC apparently do forged pistons for the N52, but then there is the injector problem ro overcome, as far as I know they haven't yet found one with the correct spray pattern.

Re: First ESS Supercharged N52 Z4 dynoed
is that whp or scaled up to bhp?
Stock looks either down on power if bhp or brilliantly up if whp... and the after... if that is whp... jeez thats insane!
How does it drive.. looks like the surge at 4.5k rpm is more prominent now, so must give a decent kick in the back as it goes!

290 will be the WHP of the VT1+ kit, so about 345bhp v 265bhp stock.

There is a very large area between 5 and 12 psi
But I think that going uncooled over 6-7psi is a risk if it's hot.
I wonder how your setup will drive and if there will be any tuning issues (like ecu fault codes, interferance from ping sensors etc etc)
Do you know how they control the blowoff valve? Is there a throttle activated vacuum point with the valvetronic?
Or is the secondary throttlebody (or should I say only electronic throttlebody) activated on throttle lift for vacuum reasons? (or is that only activated in ESP moments like on the m52tub)
And do you know why only now they come up with this kit? Maybe the ecu wasnt hacked enough in the past?

That is right, the block itself was okNeilMick wrote:So the failure wasn't the block or the liners? Interesting, VAC apparently do forged pistons for the N52, but then there is the injector problem ro overcome, as far as I know they haven't yet found one with the correct spray pattern.
Picked up the Z today, what a car this has becomed
The power delivery is as smooth as before and feels like a NA engine all the way. Top end power is an massive improvement over the original 3.0Si. The low end torque isn't that different, but it has always felt really strong on the low revs, I missed something at the top end.
And with the supercharger it has becomed a perfect match....
I have not driven a Z4M before, but have driven a few E46 M3. This feels way faster :)
