First aid box under drivers seat

Post by Mikey » Sun Jan 18, 2009 11:59 pm

Fitted a first aid box to the drivers seat and it makes a great additional storage compartment, especially when storage space is at a premium on the Z's. It's an easy two minute task-recommend it 100%
Also got round to fitting the storage net on the transmission tunnel/passengers side, at last I have somewhere to stow my ipod without it disappearing somewhere in the footwell. A few simple mods that don't cost the earth and are easy for the less hands on out there.
Question! Has anyone tried fitting the storage nets in the boot?

Does the drivers seat have the screw holes to fit it straight to the seat?

My sat nav lives under there and it has a tendency to come flying out under breaking - this would be ideal and i have a spare box too!

My Z4 has a first aid kit properly fitted under the passenger seat - all BMW official and all that. I presumed it was standard?! Is this another extra I didn't know about?

Yes it's standard but the drivers seat has nothing, hence retro fit one to that side also for storage. Seems like a great idea.

Ah. I've got my fire extinguisher to go there!

Would still like to see what storage/carpet options there are for the MC though.

I believe LeatherZ carries these and that they aren't too expensive ($30.00). I also believe that their site notes that both the passenger and driver's side are pre-drilled for the kits.

Here's a convenient link. Cheers!

The seat comes pre-drilled (3 holes). You have to order the box which comes with the mounting bracket and also order the screws. The cost is fairly cheap, don't have the receipt at hand but all this and a CDV (about £8) came to £25 and a few pence. I also stuck some thin foam pad in the box that I cut to shape to prevent any items rattling around. It literally took me 5 mins to fit-very easy.

My motor is a Z4MC and if your passenger seat has a first aid box fitted then the drivers seat should have the holes there already. For confirmation have a look under the drivers seat and look for 3 fairly large holes near the front, the two rear holes should be in line and the third hole on it's own towards the front end.

I added one each to the passenger side and the driver side. 10 minute job for each. I got the BMW first aid kit for one box and use the other to store sun glasses and other personal stuff. It is not an “M” but it was a cheap neat simple option. :)

Yes - I customised my ///M seats and at the time noted the 3 holes referred to already there on both passenger and driver.

No way are BMW going to have a different base for LHD and RHD just to blank 3 holes underneath

I put them on my M seats on both sides, be careful on the screw length. Make sure they are short enough not to interfere with the thigh extension, don't ask me how I know. Use screws just short enough for the job. I also lined them with some black felt to quiet them down.

However you would still need the bit it slots into. Not sure if that would be a seperate part to order or it would come with the box?

You'd need this bracket too if you want to mount it under the drivers seat as the bracket is only OEM on one side
