E86 Inspection II
Below is the service history, I think it is definitely due an inspection 2
13k miles, 09/09 - Oil service, brake fluid and micro-filter
23k miles, 10/11 - Oil service, inspection 1, brake fluid and micro-filter
41k miles, 08/13 - Oil service
44k miles, 06/14 - Oil service, air cleaner element, brake fluid and micro-filter
54k miles, 09/16 - Oil Service
Its now on 58k miles. When I start the car, I get a notification that an inspection is due in 575 miles. I'm not sure exactly what it needs though if I just go to an independent garage. I have looked through the service booklet, the obvious thing done in the inspection 2 is spark plugs. I don't think there is anything of great interest in an inspection 1.

It was good timing when I sold my first one - it had full main agent history at the time but was due a service and brake fluid change. Did the deal with the buyer on the basis I would get it done by the local dealer as he preferred to keep it all main agent.flight174z wrote:Below is the service history, I think it is definitely due an inspection 2

As for what yours needs, could it be just a brake fluid change seeing as it hasn't been done since June 2014 and AFAIK the recommended interval is every 2 years?
I'm not too clear on the Insp I and Insp II timings myself - my current on got an Insp II in 2014 at 71K miles, but it hasn't been to a dealer for years!
I use a local independent who is ex-Sytner, but about half the hourly rate!
If you go to the main Forum page and scroll down to "Dealer Feedback" you may find some helpful comments, including indy suggestions. (Alternatively there is another website with PH in the title) that has a list of BMW indys around the country.
Find a rated local one and maybe call them for their input if you aren't desperate to keep main agent stamps in the book!
Coupes because stunning!

Inspection 2 is due. Roughly 30k between inspection services. The 54k service should have been it.

I've found a local place that will do a "full service" for £235 including a brake fluid change and Castrol Edge oil. It's not a specialist but I used them to fix one of my window regulators, they managed that OK and they have decent reviews on google.
This doesn't include spark plugs - I assume these will need doing so might have to pay more. Any thoughts on this? There is only one BMW specialist in Nottingham - I have emailed them too to see if they have any slots this week. Would prefer to use a specialist this time as this is the first time I have had it looked at since I bought.
Not posted a pic for a while so pic below to show it at it's worst! Definitely getting used!

When you say full service do you mean oil and filter? If so I don't think you are getting a good deal. You should be able to get an oil and filter service from a main dealer for £189 and a brake fluid change for £59. Only £13 pound more than the garage you are taking about.flight174z wrote:I've found a local place that will do a "full service" for £235 including a brake fluid change and Castrol Edge oil. Here's service price list from a main dealer for your car. Just enter you reg and mileage and you'll get main dealer prices for oil service and inspections.

Service includes the below from that garage. To me the list looks very similar to an Inspection II, minus the spark plugsZeld4 wrote: When you say full service do you mean oil and filter? If so I don't think you are getting a good deal.

Who is the Indy in Nottingham you are looking at please? Is it the place near the Ice Stadium? Concept 7?
When I traded in my old BMW 530 MSport (for a 640), the BMW dealer (Coopers in Tunbridge) did not even ask for, let alone see, the service history. I think we place too much emphasis on "Full BMW service history", nice though it is to have. It is simply over charged.

Motor Master - based next to Meadow Lane. I did consider Concept 7 but the reviews online seem to be pretty poor. Perhaps I am placing too much emphasis on this though.step_change wrote:Who is the Indy in Nottingham you are looking at please? Is it the place near the Ice Stadium? Concept 7?

Motor Master have quoted £260 for Inspection II and they will diagnose the headlight issue for free.

Thanks, although MM also gets terrible reviews.flight174z wrote:Motor Master - based next to Meadow Lane. I did consider Concept 7 but the reviews online seem to be pretty poor. I may take it to where my GF takes her 1 series, to an Indy in Cotgrave of all places.

Would you mind pointing me in the direction of the bad reviews for MM so that I can make an informed decision? I have had a quick google and there are a few that think MM is fairly average (such as on M3cutters) but I can't find anything with a genuine complaint?step_change wrote:

http://www.sportstechltd.co.uk is recommended online but bit of pain for me to get to/from if I drop my car off...
I actually live around 10 miles north of Nottingam or I would look into you suggestion in Cotgrave...

Keen to point out that I am not impugning MM in any way, just sharing a publicly searchable review. He could be brilliant and the "reviewers" are trolls.

Right, just collected the car. They stayed open until 8pm for me to collect so that was a nice touch.
Inspection II has been done, together with a brake fluid change and one broken spring replaced. The price I paid overall was pretty good and comparable to an Inspection II from BMW without the other bits. They also had a look at my light that won't level. Apparently the rear sensor was seized - this has been removed and greased but unfortunately this doesn't seem to have helped - the drivers side headlight is still not moving when I turn on the ignition.
Both headlights move when I switch from dipped to full beam - to the same height. I just went out to flick them on and off to listen for the motor moving, but neither are going up or down - possibly as the car has been left stationary?
Any tips on this? It's a shame this issue remains as the car is now mechanically sound with 15k showing until the next service. I'm guessing it's the motor/connector in the drivers side light but I can't find a good picture of the rear side of the light so I know what I need to be looking for if I check myself!

Just had my E85 mot'd 11 years old and in need of inspection 11 Lloyd's BMW quoted me £1252 for this saying it involves complete engine overhaul tappet s spark plugs all oils and filters .43000 miles on the clock.
Thought that was expensive
