Front brake backplate corroded

Post by Rmo » Mon Apr 17, 2017 9:04 pm

Hi all

my coupe has started making a loud rattling noise, which it turns out is the front driver side brake back plate which has corroded at the fixing.

I cant seem to find the part online, does anyone know where I can get this from?

How big of a job is it to remove the broken plate, as if it is a quick job i'd rather get it done in the morning so the car is drivable and source the part after.

Thanks

Hi, I think the hub has to be taken off to remove that plate-any bmw dealer should be able to supply

Thanks for the info!

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but is that a big job to do?

Not the kind of job most places can slot in unannounced but likewise not a massive job either.

Needs a new hub and some decent bearing pullers, plenty of how-to's on youtube. Easy enough for a competent DIYer.

I don't believe it. Never seen a thread for this before and now driving to get my lunch with my window down ( nice day today :D ) and I hear a clatter. Loose back plate as well.

Do you always need a new hub? £200 quid for a part not needed is a lot but if needs be.

When i did mine, one side came off without needing the puller but the other side was a swine, need the pullers where you have two halfs that bolt together to get behind the inner bearing. FAG bearings are available from eurocarparts and are £112 before the weekly 30% discount. you will always have to replace the hub as the bearing is damaged on removal.
