3.0si auto with paddles... yes or no?
Hey guys, long time no speak!..... been away from the Zed scene for a few years but now possibly looking to return. My old 3.0i was a manual which was fine but i'm shopping around and came across a cracking example (08 3.0si) which i'm really tempted by, but its an auto with paddles. Having never sampled an auto version i'd like to know what they're like, is the shift a bit slow and sluggish (like the SLK....awful box which really let the car down IMO) or is it relatively crisp and lively?. overall i'd just like to know what the auto/paddles driving experience is like really. cheers guys.
3.0si E85, Rogue eng. RTAB's+top mounts, ultra racing brace, YSR coilovers, YSR camber plates, DS2500's, carbon grilles, stubby, 3SDM 0.09's, Yokohama AD08r's, H&R anti-rollbars, adjustable rear arms, backbox delete, custom geo. Lots of polybushes

The 3.0 whether SE or Si REALLY suits the auto box, and as for getting off the line, they are NO slouch...
Mine doesn't have paddles, and TBH I don't think I'd use them if it did, there's always manual mode
Drive it, you'll love it..

3.0si auto with paddles... yes or no?
I ran a 335d auto for about a year and the auto box was ok but just ok. Fast forward a couple of years I came across a 3.0si auto going cheap so took a punt, much much better. I enjoyed it enough that when I got my e89 35i I made sure I got an auto.

The 3.0 with box is a superb combo. Ran mine for 10 years and never missed the manual box once.
In sport mode the shifts are quick and later up the rev range. Paddles allow you to drive it very manual like, selecting gears as and when
As with all these things though you simply have to get behind the wheel and try as the Zed is about driving experience and you'll either like the auto or not, regardless of opinions

a roadster should always be manual in my opinion
Auto boxes do have their places though - my friends 335d suits it well
