Speaker Noise!

Post by Silverstar » Sat May 25, 2024 11:35 am

So many of you may know that back in 2020 I upgraded my basic 6 speaker system with all new speakers in the doors rear quarter panels and front kick panels plus a couple of subs. I installed an amp to drive the 8 (6 plus the door tweeters) speakers and another amp to drive the two subs.

The system has been working well until recently, but now I am getting intermitent noise from the right rear speaker. Sounds like interference or something, the noise comes and goes and sometimes doesn't happen at all and it comes whether there is something playing or not. I have removed the speaker and checked but all seems well, anyone have any ideas what could be causing this noise? I have uploaded a short video on Youtube to demonstrate the noise:

Loose connection..dirty connection..does it change on input change, volume level change?
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

I have checked at the speaker end and all is well there, the noise is the same whatever the volume of the sound system or even if there is nothing playing and I think also if it is turned off (radio power button).

Can you swap channels on the input or output of the new amp to see if the noise moves?

Sounds like loose connection.
I assume noise goes if it disconnected.
Buy another speaker, the wires to coil might be broke.
Radio off, speaker amp might still be on.

Also, if you swap this speaker with another, does the noise stay here or follows the speaker ?

Thanks for the replies guys, it could be all of the above. Considering the amp is tucked away behind the trim in the boot, I'll start with the easiest option and that is swap the speakers over from right to left and see if it follows. If not will probably have to look at the amp.

New cafe and bar our airfield, told £11 pint. Can't see that lasting.

Local flat roof, £4.50 pint.

Good job I am not in the UK then, here I can get excellent home made gelato for 3 to 4,50€ depending on size of the cup / cone! And a pint is not far off either. :D
