Mileage Phobia?

Post by sunnydays » Fri Sep 22, 2017 10:37 am

So my 35is has only covered 4000 miles ish since I bought it last year. I potentially have a 600 mile trip that I could take it on but part of me feels bad about adding so many miles to it?

Anyone here got any advice to make me feel better? The car spends alot of its time in the garage and only driven in perfect weather for local journeys, so feels odd to drive it on such a long trip

Drive it! As Marlon said, is what they were built for, looking good is a bonus. Mine is my daily, 10k+ miles a year, take care of it but can't keep it in cotton wool

Just work out the cost per mile. This will make you get out in it.... :D

I reckon my M has cost me over £1 per mile without taking fuel and maintenance into account.

It's a 35is? :poke:

Seriously though, I know what you mean. I'm not averse to mileage, but hundreds of motorway miles really puts me off. Next year for Le Mans I think I'm going to go the scenic route or jump in a friend's dadmobile.

well, one would assume you bought the car cos you like driving it, rather than as an appreciating asset or a lawn ornament, so I'd be thankful that something had given you the opportunity to actually do some miles in it. by all means take some country roads if you have an aversion to motorway miles.

also, the car will probably thank you for it - lots of short journeys isn't good for a car, a decent long drive will be good for clearing out any gunk.

if you feel that bad about adding those 600 miles buy a bicycle and use that for every trip under 10 miles then you'll get the 600 miles back

My week long road trip with Pastry & Stupot added around 2,500miles to my e89, it helped me bond with the car as I hadn't owned it for very long & made me feel as though I had got some value from purchasing it :P
You may as well have a cardboard cutout in the garage if you're afraid to use it!

I would decide based on how where you are going. Some trips are just not for sporty driving and are boring in any car. Also would consider the weather and if you have to deal with heavy traffic.. Here in the USA, I love driving in the mountains but I hate the long trek on flat straight roads just to get there. Also resort areas along the coast are nice in the Z4.
BTW for the USA owners, check the websites for motorcycle roads
