trying to replace high beam bulb
Evening all,as the thread title says I'm trying to change the off side high beam bulb..managed to get all the covers off and twisted the holder as per the owner's manual..the bulb came out still connected to it.Replaced the bulb in the holder, but can't get it all to fix back into the h/l unit I've attached a couple of (bad) photos..can anyone see if there's anything missing from either the holder or the lamp assy.? I've tried to put the bulb in first and attach the holder but there appears to be nothing locating either item to the h/l assy. itself..
TIA.. - Rusky

You've probably got either the bulb in the wrong way round, which prevents the clip from going back in (deliberately) or the clip itself upside down?

On mine both sides were a pig to get back in. I ended up jacking up the car and taking the front wheels off so that I could get into the wheelarch and have a clear view of what I was doing. Then they went in OK.

When putting the holder back in, the lugs need to be in the "10 to 2" position and not "20 to 4" if that makes sense..

Thanks for all the replies...which lugs are you talking about Mike? The only ones I can see on the holder are 180 degrees from each other ie quarter to and quarter past or on the hour or half past .. I wondered if anything was missing from either the holder or the lamp unit..I must be having a particularly dumb weekendDucklakeview wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:53 pm When putting the holder back in, the lugs need to be in the "10 to 2" position and not "20 to 4" if that makes sense..

Have you loosened those two torqxs bits? By 3 turns on so then you stick the bulb in rotated a little and rotate the other direction to clip in behind the torqxs heads and then tighten them back up a little.

The lugs on the holder itself are offset slightly. You don't need to loosen the torx screws, they can and do snap the plastic posts away from the headlight as they become brittle with age and heat.

Sorry to be a bore Mike, but can you tell from my photo if the these posts have been snapped on mine? Maybe that's why I can't fit the bulb back in..Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 11:20 am The lugs on the holder itself are offset slightly. I had this issue too and thought something missing. The low beam bulb holders are different and slide under lugs not torx screws.
I found that the bulb would only locate on one or other torx screw. Fixed this by putting an electrical ring terminal on one of the torx screws and this has the effect of giving the bulb holder more surface area to grip.Loosen the other screw one 1/2 turn too. All this is easier with the wheel off.
If like me you only have a standard trolley jack and its too high to go under the car , drive on to some wood off cuts ( like hard decking) to lift the car an inch before jacking up.

This is why I get Halfords or the garage to do mine. (Some people say it is lazyness, but I just think it is because I'm special)Truman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 6:43 pm Evening all,as the thread title says I'm trying to change the off side high beam bulb..managed to get all the covers off and twisted the holder as per the owner's manual..the bulb came out still connected to it.Replaced the bulb in the holder, but can't get it all to fix back into the h/l unit I've attached a couple of (bad) photos..can anyone see if there's anything missing from either the holder or the lamp assy.? trying to replace high beam bulb
Got it sorted..after checking the n/s holder for comparison I realised that I'd managed to bend one of the lugs on the bulb holder and it wouldn't locate correctly..5 mins straightening out and it's all back together complete with covers etc...thanks to everyone who tried to help out...
