DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
My "spare" DISA valve arrived this morning, along with a refurb / upgrade kit so after lunch I stripped it, cleaned it, fitted the kit and wondered if I should replace the one on my car or swop it out some time in the future as the car's only done 40,000 miles.
I almost decided to leave it for a while but then saw that the rugby doesn't kick off until 5 o'clock, so decided to get it done before the match.
Just as well I did as when I took out the old unit, the pin was sticking well out and once it was out it more-or-less fell out of the housing all by itself!!
Here are a couple of pics of what it was like:
So, very glad that I decided to get it done I can tell you!! Also well worth checking if you have a 3.0 Zed!

Did mine a couple of years ago. Once I'd read a couple of threads on the subject I couldn't sleep until I'd done it!

Re: DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
I've read somewhere, the si engines are not as susceptible to this problem (can't remember where though)

The si N52 engine has a different design DISA to the M54.

Is the 2.5l M54 susceptible to this problem or is it just the 3.0l engine?

That pin cant just 'fall out' in the inlet mani - it is pushed against the wall (i checked when i inspected mine). The only way these will likely fail is plastic fatigue/cracking.

Re: DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
Thanks for that bit of comfort. I'm gonna have to take a look at mine. It's done 100k but is absolutely silent around the DISA area so hopefully all will be well.EdButler wrote:That pin cant just 'fall out' in the inlet mani - it is pushed against the wall (i checked when i inspected mine). Wrong they can find their way out its well documented and once you've had it happen to you, your tune will changeEdButler wrote:That pin cant just 'fall out' in the inlet mani - it is pushed against the wall (i checked when i inspected mine). And yes it happened to me on my 330 ci so am speaking from experience, don't leave it to chance if in any doubt change it or fit the I6 upgrade kit

Re: DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
What happens if the unit fails? is it dangerous, or just poor engine response?

Re: DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
If it fails it's often curtains for your engine, the metal pin that can fall out gets sucked into a combustion chamberK3P0 wrote:What happens if the unit fails? is it dangerous, or just poor engine response?
