E85 2.5 exhaust to manifold lugs?
Hi,
My exhaust started blowing, only to get worse in yesterday's heavy rain. I took it to an exhaust specialist and he said it was very common for Z4s' and Z3s' for the lugs connecting the exhaust to the manifold to become loose. I was told the gearbox would need to be dropped to get to the lugs, is this the case, or are they trying to strap me up for more man hours?
Cheers.

Hi, I don't think dropping the gearbox is necessary as others on here have replaced those studs without going to those lengths.
I'd go to a different exhaust place for another opinion

I've just been under the car myself, its the fixings at the front end of the front exhaust.
One of the fixings has come loose is all, not happy with the exhaust company

Mine looks a bit of a mess that end, a couple of the nuts seem to be half gone due to corrosion. No blowing or anything though so not going to go messing with it for the time being!

I'm taking it to ATS this evening, I'll let you know how it goes and what it'd cost to fix. The bolts may need drilling out, they're also pretty corroded.

Kwik fit did mine for £60.
All the nuts had gone and the bolts had corroded to a point like a nail.

Changed mine when I dropped the exhaust to do the diff splines, 2 sheared off! Simple job to drill out & replace, can't think why the gearbox needs to be lowered?

ATS and Kwik Fit wouldn't touch it, taking it to a BMW specialist today, they're going to drop the exhaust and drill them out, like you say. They said between £100-£200.

Turns out the exhaust had to be dropped in the end, cost me £256.
