2005 BMW E53 X5 3.0d - Huge Spec - Low Miles

Post by gwatson » Mon Jun 13, 2016 9:15 am

2005 X5 3.0d Sport automatic with full service history, all BMW dealership except one. Sterling Grey. Mileage is now just 64000 miles (will increase). The list of options (see below) is very comprehensive, with some very rare options such as double glazing. I’m just the 3rd owner. This particular example is immaculate (I don’t use that term loosely) both inside and outside.

The optional equipment added up to £9880, even back in 2005.

V9SW - Exclusive Nappa Black Leather (expensive option)
601 DIGITAL TV FUNCTION
402 PANORAMA GLASS ROOF
352 DOUBLE GLAZING
522 XENON LIGHT

644 PREP. FOR. MOB. PH. BLUETOOTH. INTERF.
672 CD CHANGER BMW FOR 6 CDS
676 HIFI LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM
2CC LT/ALY WHEELS STAR SPOKE 132
205 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
220 SELF-LEVELING SUSPENSION
226 SPORTS SUSPENSION SETTINGS
249 MULTI-FUNCTION FOR STEERING WHEEL
255 SPORTS LEATHER STEERING WHEEL
328 ALUMINIUM RUNNING BOARD SILL
330 SPORTS PACKAGE
358 CLIMATE COMFORT WINDSCREEN
430 INT/EXT RR VW MIRROR W AUT ANTI-DAZZLE
441 SMOKERS PACKAGE
442 CUPHOLDER
459 SEAT ADJUSTM., ELECTR. W. MEMORY
471 INTERIOR LINE GRAPHITE METALLIC
481 SPORT SEATS F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
488 LUMBAR SUPPORT DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
494 SEAT HEATING F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
502 HEADLIGHT WASHER SYSTEM
508 PARK DISTANCE CONTROL (PDC)
521 RAIN SENSOR
534 AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING
775 INDIVIDUAL ROOF-LINING ANTHRACITE

Full Service History:
08/05/06 @ 17091 miles – BMW Sytner Sutton Coldfield
19/09/07 @ 36743 miles - BMW Sytner Sutton Coldfield
02/03/10 @ 45546 miles - BMW Sytner Sutton Coldfield
07/11/13 @ 49875 miles – Local Independent
28/01/16 @ 59196 miles - BMW Sytner Sutton Coldfield

Previous owner of 9 years changed the oil between services using Mobil 1 oil. Four green lights remaining on dash, not due again until Jan 2018. MOT’d until 9th Feb 2017, no advisories at the last MOT.

Wheels are immaculate, minus n/s rear which has a few light scratches. see photograph. All four tyres are just 6 months old, approx. 7mm tread depth all round.

Regarding any sunroof concerns, I’ve had the rear glass panel disabled from tilting as this is a common issue. However this does not affect the front glass tilting, nor the sunroof fully retracting or the sun blind.

During my ownership, to ensure this car is perfect, I’ve recently had the steering wheel re-trimmed in Nappa leather by Royal Steering Wheels and took the opportunity to replace the plastic steering wheel trim as it was scuffed. Professional privacy glass (windows tints) added for the kids. I also installed aluminium speedo cluster rings to modernise the dash a little.

This car will be appreciated by any BMW enthusiast with the advantage of falling into the cheaper road tax bracket and also being virtually depreciation free.

Car is located close to Aberdeen, but with budget flights available from most UK airports, don’t let that put you off. I traveled to Birmingham for this one, well worth it.

Priced at £10,400. Serious inquiries only.

(Excuse the poor picture in the sun, will update at the weekend)

As I'm actively in the market for an X5 at the moment, albeit a facelifted 7str 35d twin turbo, I do think that this is a VERY optimistic price for this car. You can easily get a 35d for this sort of money.

Sorry OP, but this needs to be at least three grand, if not more cheaper if you want it to shift.

Just my opinion..

Thanks for the advice guys, but I've already turned down an offer of £9500 and £9800 from two different buyers over the last few weeks, both viewed the car. I'm in no rush.

Sure, you can get a leggy E70, in the high tax band, with a questionable service history and low spec. Would love to see some like for like comparisons though. It's always the same, look at E39's vs E60, E46's vs E90's, the top end cars will always be more than the low end newer cars. Depends on what's more important. Personally, I always buy on condition, history and spec. Not age.

Trust me I'm aware of the market, I just bought a LCI E70 and been looking at various options prior to that, but ruled out the E70 pre lci for a number of reasons. Talking about being in touch... ff you can show me a 35d with under 65k miles for less than £10400, I will be shocked. Edited - Just checked, 2 E70's on autotrader sneak under 100k miles for that money, all the rest of them 120k plus. Not really like for like.

I make no apologies that this car is priced high, but a true enthusiast will appreciate it.

I never mentioned mileage, high miles don't bother me. A full service history is more important, along with receipts to back up the work done. Looking at the history for your vehicle there would seem to be a gap?

I've personally looked at TWO 35d X5's in the last couple of weeks, both of which were up for £10,995, and which I would expect to have paid around £10,500 max for. The only reason I have yet to purchase, is that I am fussy on spec, wanting certain things.

I was merely offering my opinion, that £10,400 for a vehicle with a (possibly) patchy service history, no warranty and no comebacks, is a LOT of money for what it is.

You wanted direct comparisons?

There you go, almost over £3k cheaper than yours, and arguably a nicer colour combo http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/b ... 7115759635?

GLWTS by the way..

That's up to me at the end of the day what I'm willing to let it go. I didn't say it was overpriced, what I meant was it's at the top end of the price range. The car is worth more to me than those offers, I'd rather sell my E70.

The offers would suggest I'm not far off, just need to hold out for the right buyer. Certainly not £3k plus overpriced lol.

I spent quite a few weeks at the beginning of the year looking for an 05-06 X5 before buying a cracking X3 I stumbled across. IMO yours is worth £9500, possibly £10k if you find the right person. Dealers were pricing at £10500-£11500 but obviously had the benefit of warranty etc. I thinks they are slightly seasonal so would expect a slight drop now from when I looked in the winter therefore I probably would have bitten the hand off the £9800 buyer but GLWTH, it looks a good one

In hindsight, £9800 was probably a fair offer! But it's early days. I guess I'm not desperate to sell it and part of my thinks selling the E70 would end up the best option, don't feel the love for it like the the old school X5.

I think the other thing to appreciate is pricing is very local, I'm in Aberdeen which has always had artificially high pricing. There are only two within 50 miles of me, one at £9500 with 92k miles and the other at £9995 with 97k miles, both trade though to be fair.

I know the guy I rejected the offer of £9800 from went on to buy a local 2006 with similar miles, but far less spec, in fact it didn't even have heated seats and was the £500 a year road tax for £9300. 2006's generally command less money because of this, much like when I had my S2000, 2005's were the one to have and in demand. He'll never shift it on when the time comes, not without heated seats and high tax. Plus it needed a service and rear tyres.

I'm surprised at that, I thought 2006 models were all pretty loaded by BMW to shift them as it was well known a new model was coming out! You're dead right, he will really struggle selling it.
The thing that changed my mind was seeing an 06 plate parked next to an 07 which made it look so dated and the image stuck in my mind then up pops the X3 m sport and the rest as they say, is history. Good luck
