Things have moved on since 2016, but I don't think you'd be unhappy with any tyre from that EVO test!
It is strange that in some tests the obvious competitor is blatantly missing, so they show the last generation, or touring tyre instead (e.g. SC5 instead of SC6, PSS instead of PS4S). Of course, this is down to what's available at the time, and in the correct sizes, but it's showing there's a very fine line between them all now and you need to buy on longevity as much as performance.
Also it's a bit unnerving when two big magazines come to different results for the same tyres, so I wonder how much subjectiveness is in these results.

They came top of the 'Pre-War Jianjing Bicycle Tyre Test'.
Seriously though, I had a set of 'budget' tyres fitted to my e34 M5 for a long-term Pistonheads tyre test (Interstate ITX-1).
Ostensibly they were an 'own brand' tyre that most of the tyre places offered at about 50% of the price of a decent tyre, but BlackCircles were offering them as their 'performance choice' for 70%.
At the end of my 20,000 miles my view was that they were good in the wet (not just for a budget tyre), but didn't live with even the Conti SportContact 2 in the dry.
What I did find out about 10,000 miles into the test, when I had new suspension and 'neutral' geometry applied to the M5, was that they became squirmy bastards and were not stable at all. Seems the excessive negative camber I had on for track days & hoons flattered the tyres performance and the motorway-biased neutral set-up I changed too showed them in their true light.

i know i'll get shot down in flames, but honestly, over the last 18 months ish, budgets HAVE got a lot better. The sunny/fullruns you used to get 5 years ago, were bordering on lethal in anything but bone dry- however the 'triangle sportex' i have on my Z4 now are not only good in wet they are quiet too. I am a stance queen though and dont drive the car to the best of its ability, but for a 'budget tyre' you cant complain, as long as you know their limits.

If you can make budget tyres work for you then I guess you can save a lot of cash in the long run, me personally I need to rely on a tyre and the budgets just don't fill me with the confidence required to put them on my motor.

I have had Vreds for years on cars with decent HP. Got them on the Zed now and the rear grip is amazing. Also have them on the 330 and on the track they are pretty decent.
Conti's are good on my Merc, daily driver. Pirelli P Zeros were really soft and didn't last long.
