Is this a notifiable addition / accessory I wonder?

Never been asked, and never seen it in the mods list.

No different than mounting a Sat Nav or hanging an air freshener from the rear view mirror surely.
Having a working dashcam could only be beneficial to an insurance company I'd have thought?

yeah you gotta notify, some companies want to know. I've told churchill who I am insured with and they said they don't need to know.

I wouldn't want discount cos if it failed and you had an accident they'd probably decline the insurance claim

I use a cam in both motors but haven't notified my insurers. Potentially I could see it would increase your premium as its makes the car more of a target for theft if you leave the cam in the car which I do as it has a parking mode. Difficult one, think I posted a thread on this earlier in the year asking if you removed a dashcam each time the car was unattended.

AXA specifically ask if there is a camera in the car
Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty
S2000 GT - gone

I would save £40 a year on my cars with a dash cam. But as others have said. What happens if it doesn’t record your accident?

It would be pretty ironic for someone to break into a car to steal a dash cam

They have very little 2nd hand / stolen value. Not a target for tea leaves generally.

My insurance company, Liverpool Victoria, don’t offer any discounts but will accept footage to support a claim. Using it when parked however is something different. This is a quote from their ‘dash cam’ advice.
‘Just like a portable satnav, your dashboard camera needs to be securely stored in your glove compartment or boot when you leave your car unattended’
Not helpful as you can’t claim if it’s stolen from your car if used as a parking monitor
