This was inevitable but still came as a bit of a shock

One thing for sure is there will need to be a fair bit required to install more charging points across the country unless everyone plugs the car in at home.

Petrol engines beginning of the end
There was a study done a few years ago in the US that assumed 75% of the personal auto were electric and if they were plugged in every night to recharge it would bring our electric grid to its knees.

Volvo are doing it with both petrol and Diesel engines, so the end is looming for both like that.

I hope I make good use of the 6cyl 3.0l proper engine before the new tech is all that's available !

Don't know if you saw Goodwood on the box tonight. There seemed to be alot of talk of electric/hybrid cars and driverless cars and even driverless motor racing, felt quite depressed watching it to be honest. I can't quite see the point of driverless motor racing

Don't tempt fate Rob, I can see petrol stations disappearing in the future, a tactical way of saying you will drive an electric car

I quite like electric cars. They are damn quick and very quiet, which I like, but currently are too expensive and don't have the range, so any long trips means you also need a conventional engine car or its a half hour stop every 100 or so motorway miles.

I'm thinking I will be keeping the M140i, it will be downgraded to a 4cyl next year anyways, depends if the new Z4 gets the B58 engine and its the good side of 40k. Think it might be alot more expensive than the outgoing E89 unless BMW do good discounts.

Got quite concerned when I read the topic heading.
Then I used the link - it's Volvo. They've not yet made a car I would want, so who gives a sh1t?

Can you only imagine the apocalyptic world wide recession and possible world war that would follow if petroleum sales were to finish anytime soon.
