2.2 Z4 / Replica Alpina on Ebay

Post by Number5 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 9:53 am

This is an interesting vehicle.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-BMW-Z4-2 ... SwanRXhVMk

I've seen a few 3.0 Z4's with all the body kit on, but never a 2.2 before.

Still a 6-pot but possibly a tad cheaper on the insurance for anyone who likes the look but is too young for the genuine Alpina !

2.2 Z4 / Replica Alpina on Ebay

If the wheels are genuine, it'd be cheaper to buy the car than to buy the Alpina bodykit and wheels

The ad says 'It Looks And Sounds Like A Genuine Alpina From The Outside' - well it could look like a debadged RS if they removed the Z4 badge on the boot, but there's no way it'll sound like one...

Interested to find out how he's made it "sound like an Alpina from the outside" :)

That's an expensive homage though - wheels (if original and unmarked) are worth £1000+, and the other body trim bits would pick up a few hundred second hand. Looks a nice vehicle, but I wouldn't try to register it on the Alpina forum; funny if the purchaser did though :D

Yeah, worse than the ///M police over there. Would be funny though to read the posts of incredulity that someone would dare to build a "homage" :D

If the new owner does join the forum, he must be allowed to post in the hallowed Alpina section...surely ??

Anyone can post in the Alpina section... it's not 'hallowed' and we're not as anal about things as the ///M boys...

There was a 3.0 Silver replica knocking around for sale last year for about £5k. If it was in the £3-4k's I'd have been tempted to buy it and run it as a winter car/daily , leaving the genuine #019 for the special occasions and keeping the mileage down.

Like you say, there's a £1000's worth of wheels, plus the spare body parts if its the same colour as your real one !

If any of you Alpina boys do buy a replica for spare bits. Please let me know as i could do with a shall and engine. Maybe just a shell to do something crazy with.
My little blue zed is in lots of bits. With lots of things started and not many finished! I may have found the limits of my time and ability!!

I wonder if it's a trader selling it?

He seems to have bought and sold a few cars over the last year judging by his feedback, the Autosmart carpet covers and the mention of a warranty available at extra cost

Doesn't this fall into the "too good to be true" category? As Perry says, the wheels and other Alpina bits must be worth a lot and car is low mileage and looks clean. If I was interested I would be very careful.

Usual checks required but I don't see anything obviously suspicious? It's got six days to run at auction and has already had 9 bids, it looks to be a nice car with interest so I can't see it going suspiciously cheap.
