Alpina RS Steering Wheel

Post by Number5 » Tue Mar 28, 2017 9:39 am

I just thought I'd post this in the Alpina section, for easy reference, even though I've previously posted a picture on another thread.

I wasnt overly happy with my original steering wheel. With it being 13 years old it had got rather shiny and smooth, plus I'd scagged the bottom of the wheel getting in the car wearing cargo pants, due to a zip on the left thigh pocket. However, I also found it a little thin by modern standards, (especially as I'm driving a 2015 BMW as a daily car)

This was the original wheel:

I sent it to Jack at Royals Steering Wheels for recovering and he added an extra 2mm of padding on top of the original wheel and then covered with Nappa Leather for £135 The wheel now feels much better and is far more comfortable to grip.

In order to keep it Alpina OEM I stuck with the green and blue stitching and the quality of the workmanship is excellent.

I'd fully recommend Royals if you are looking at getting your wheel done too.

Nope, your avatar is screwed for me as well, Alan.

BTW - also did my wheel at Jacks but had to cover the leather spokes myself, so lost the Alpina dual rhombus on the bottom spoke. The original leather was damaged beyond repair by the previous owner. Jack couldn't help there as he doesn't do leather thin enough for spokes - eventually, I'll find a coach builder who does leather to order, or just teach myself
