Insurance Cost Z4M

Post by Mr Tidy » Tue May 21, 2024 10:44 pm

Moving on from my earlier post I just got the renewal from Chris Knott for £434.99 with 5,000 miles a year.

Money Supermarket have a site for "Classic" cars so for some entertainment I put details into that. Declared Suspension mods (I've got coil-overs), body mods for the Aero sills, added Roll Cage as there was nothing else in the drop-down that would suit a strut brace and couldn't find anything appropriate for after-market back-boxes.

Quotes came back starting at £485.31 and topping out at £2,708.63! :o

But the craziest bit was when I entered my registration number the website generated a valuation of £6,910. WTF is that about?
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

£7k is probably the trade price if sold at auction, it affects the cost of a repair if a claim is made, a lot of cars are being written off for light damage.
The cost of repairs has skyrocketed a new bumper can easily cost £2000 if the car retail value is only £4k they will write it off, you can buy it back but it becomes Cat N or S and virtually unsalable.

Making a claim needs thought it can get very expensive, a DIY or Smart fix makes more sense.

Just renewed mine today with them, strange. Went up £5 which is less than inflation so I'm calling that a win :D

They're probably not taking on new business at the minute. Same with lots of insurers.

Jumping back into this thread. My insurance Co have just offered to lock this years renewal price in for the next 3 years (don’t laugh, it’s Saga) at £275 per year, thought it was a bit of a no-brainier….

Could cry reading this thread. Mines about £1600  with LV. My 3.0si was about 1200. Age is 32. Location is right in the thick of it, in crime riddled Huddersfield so the postcode certainly doesn't help. Never had insurance less than a grand I think. But also never had a normal car so it's hard to say

Sorry, didn’t want to create any angst, more a case of sharing incase it’s worth exploring fixing the cost if it’s an option

Not at all! That's just the way it goes :) I knew what I was getting into when I bought it to be fair. My insurance prices do flip flop alot though, my renewal quote next year will probably be alot less than it is now

This was my last multicar cost.

BMW 4 SERIES - £1,026.36
BMW Z4 - £285.58

As I'm now retired I just tried to alter the policies to remove commuting. It added £11 to the Z4m and was the same for the M4.

Bizarre. Time to change next year.

Talking of bizarre - my insurance was cheaper if I included my wife down as named driver.
Clearly they’ve not seen her driving!

Yes insurance companies are happier if a partner accompanies the driver to temper the driving style, my wife although she is a good driver does not take prisoners, I’m happy to save £100 on insurance, one of the few financial perks of marriage.

Churchill renewal received today, £213.54. Gone up from £196.61 last year. Mods declared and no mileage limit. I was expecting a huge rise so I'm very happy, unlike two hours ago when I sent off £735 for tax. Swings and roundabouts I suppose. Oh, my wife is also on the policy but she can't see over the bonnet to drive it so there's another thing to be happy about.

Well after getting renewal through from Chris Knott for £434.99 (it was £370 last year) I got a quote for £419.00 from Howden in Thatcham with a £50 lower excess.

Went back to CK yesterday and surprise surprise they matched the premium and the excess, so I renewed with them!

Given the increases some have seen I suppose that isn't too bad for a car with a few mods.
