z4m sprint championship on going times/progression..

Post by Beedub » Wed Jun 25, 2014 6:08 pm

Well....

just did a track day/sprint session.... we properly time these events and run a top gear style leader board.... This is at my home circuit of cur-borough sprint on the NEW figure 8 circuit, this was my FIRST time running the track since the new tarmac and layout and I'm pleased with the second in class i received but was also alittle disappointed, the car felt very good but struggled for traction and the new circuit is really a test of ones nerve, i was happy to have beat the supercharged m3 v8 which had 650hp which was completely track spec with a cage , wings and slicks!! Bare in mind this was my first outing on the new circuit so id like to see this time tumble alittle, Even MORE impressive my semi slicks were wrongly shipped in the road compound, id ordered the track set but didn't check what arrived ( knob).

The TVRs although track prepared were absolutely blistering , their combo of light weight on 400+hp just was epic to watch and some seriously good drivers... heres the current leader board!

i need to get the proper compound semi slick on and get back, class lead is easily within reach and can be done on the current tyres, to get to the TVR territory i need to get my track compound tyres on, BTW these times were achieved on the budget semi slick the nankang NS-2R that cost 540quid ALL in!!. Only issue i had on the day was my brake fluid tank spitting out alittle due to me filling right upto the max mark, never happened before but lesson learned!!, luckily very minor and no damage caused, i quickly doused black drum behind the master cylinder with water to remove the splashes of brake fluid, polished the unit and pleased to report no marks or damage, other than that the car ran flawlessly all day in 25 Deg C heat , the supercharger unit has had a minor service performed by me and is a reliable as ever... the car was ran from 9am to 4pm and did around 60 laps that day ( used 2 tanks of fuel however     ). I need to make some minor changes to the suspension setup, and get back again to get the sector top time which is currently held by the fq400 evo X tuned to 460hp.

Not bad for a first attempt on the new layout on the wrong compound tyres. Very pleased actually :-)

the little stripped out saxo vTs's is a very simple way on making a very fast car these were FLYING....

Good effort mate, but why do you run with the hardtop on? According to bmwfans.info it's 68lbs (excluding fitting) which is 31kg, all pretty high up too which won't help in the corners. Seems pointless weight, especially as the speeds are so low there, not like it's aerodynamic in anyway.

Also shows you just how quick the lightweight caterhams are, different league, definitely my next move! That MKII Golf is quick too!

speeds are low??? 60mph first corner on a track with no runoff ?? hardtop is their for any added safety/rigidity it can offer, not about roof off activity on the track IMO , especially not this one , however I have a donnington evening mess around and may slow down Abit and go without the top on. surprised you need to ask tbh???

I'm also pretty much certain theirs only benefit to running it , the fastest car on zpost is a roadster running gt3 cup times on his home circuit , he feels the Same benefits as me ... It's definitely not hurting and I'd wager their is an aerodynamic benefit too ...

Compared to a "proper circuit", yes 70mph is slow. Anyway, sorry, didn't mean to upset, was just saying there could be time savings to be made by ditching it.

I've had a hardtop on my last Z4, don't be fooled into thinking if offers any rigidity or protection, I know just how fragile it is after dropping it (just fibreglass) and they just rest on the rear bodywork effectively. If you're genuinely concerned about either of those, offset the weight against a proper cage, that will make a difference. Although I appreciate it's not desirable for road use.

@gwatson

I'm happy to agree to disagree and definitely no upset , I don't let the Internet opinion bother me to much :-p

But IMO , your just as misinformed as you think I am :-) so we'll call it stalemate!! Lol.

Looking forward to evening sesh at donny however, should be awesome !

i have no idea!!! id hate to calculate it !!

Need to get the tyres changed and swallow a brave pill, driving fast on these sprint type circuits takes far more balls and skill than initially appears... theirs a low 1.2X coming, back for another go in 3 weeks :-) i love the new figure 8 circuit layout which is taken at enough speed to require new pants ! lol!! Love this place!

definitely will do :-)

ALL too often you see people build these cars up like i have then sell them on after 6 months, so its been awesome to get it to a near finished point and just enjoy the thing... took a caterham r500 dude for a pass lap and he said, "blimey this feels very fast" and " my car doesn't brake like this"  My heart felt all happy!! lol!!

i just need to work on the braking zones carrying more speed through the tighter sections, theirs a very very good time in this car, I'm definitely the limiting facto, but for a first outing.... I'm very pleased!!

BTW this is the same company that is going to host our z4 track day, they said YES!!!!! i really need to update that thread as I've made lots of headway with the details now!!

Sounds like fun. Know what you mean about Saxos. I had a Saxo VTS. Lovely car, and for its time it went like a rocket
