Considering an e86M
So a small the title says, I'm considering a move away from the 35i. Not that I don't like my car but the ZCoupe M would provide thrills with a bit more practicality.
Should I or shouldn't I? Are there any risks with the engine or tranny at higher mileages? (I see a fair few posts about various bearings/shells)

A lot less risks then the N54 that's for sure! My S54 has been faultless over the last 7 years but I do look after it. You will find the E86M about 10 times as raw as the E89...and all the better for it!

Best decision I ever made. As long as you can afford the service costs, eg. clutch change £1k plus, Insp. 2- £1k plus. Sensible to have an emergency fund of £1-2k in the bank just in case. Do plenty of research on running costs, plenty of useful info on here, and very knowledgeable guys who have had their Z4Ms for years such as Beedub and mmm-five.
Get the big jobs done straight away (rod bearing shells, Vanos if needed) and then just relax and enjoy. Gearbox and diff oil if not already been done. Get the engine mount bolts checked, they have a habit of working themselves loose. I change my oil about every 5-7.5k Mines on 112k and going strong.
Do it, you won't regret it!

If you buy right you will be fine, if you buy an AUC you'll get a years warranty which is good insurance until you get to know the car properly

Why do you say "a bit more practicality"? Just out of curiosity... obviously you should buy one, regardless.

I am guessing he is talking about the boot space, The E86 is a pretty decent size even with the battery box compared to an E89 IMO.
Do it OP you wont regret it,
Buy an eventuri or Carbon airbox too, fitted one to my E46 M3 last night and it sounds quality.

So my only gripe with the e89 is that I can’t carry a passenger and my two dogs. Miniature schnauzers, terrier size. The e86 boot, esp being able to see into it, fits this need.
Ideally I just want one fast car that suits my needs. The e89 is close but two dogs in the boot there will result in two dead dogs when I arrive at my destination. Not ideal.

What have you got to lose? Get the servicing in order and get yourself a rare car that you can get loads of help with!

Also have a miniature schnauzer, and previously having a Merc SL with a 'dog shelf' I am looking for a E86 coupe to house the dog!Maniac wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 5:06 pm So my only gripe with the e89 is that I can’t carry a passenger and my two dogs.
