Where will you go after the M...?
The missus and I have been contemplating whether to change the cars for 2016, which lead us to look at what options there are for us to consider...
After a number of years of taking hard hits on residual value (read losing £15k on a SLK, £20k on a Z4, £20k on X5) my head will never allow me to buy something 'normal' which will 'obviously' take a hit year on year. So, in reality this leaves a relatively small number of cars that you could buy and realistically predict small depreciation, or even better, slight appreciation over a short term (we did ok with the CSL and V8V). However, I'm absolutely no market expert in this field, but a few cars stick out to me as potential 'undervalued' buys for 2016....
1) Aston Martin DBS @ £75k (has been in 3 bond films, which must keep its future value high) *I love Aston's and had a DBS for a short time via work.
2) Ferrari 458 @ £100k
3) Porsche 997 GT3 @ £75k
My goal would be to run one of these cars for 2 years, then sell on for similar or close to what I paid for it...does that sound like a ridiculously huge gamble or would a rise in interest rates later this year absolutely smash the balls out of the used performance car market??? I appreciate the running costs of these will all be high, but probably just a little more than a combined Z4MC and TTRS outlay we currently have.
If we didn't go for this route, I guess we end up with a 'normal' 911/R8 at £45-£50k, which whilst lovely would only continue to shed money....
Any opinions/thoughts appreciated...

I would limit the amount of cash you put in. The small the amount, the smaller you can lose.
Might not be the style you want but B7 Rs4 would be a good shout i think. C63 AMG etc. You will never see engines like that again, and they have a cult following.

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
For me the perfect car would have been the unobtainable GT4 but I'm Really in love the new exige v6 350 sport / CUP too.... i love the caterham 620R but feel thats too one sided to really get the use id want it to have.
but in reality, i feel my Z is in a performance league i can't really afford to better at the moment, I'm more than happy to just improve further, make lighter, setup again again and again until its better ever. When I'm not on it, to just cruise in roadster form in the summer warmth, listening to the exhaust, the engine, the blower is just magical for me... Every single time i experience that i actually think, what more do i need.... Cant wait for spring now :-p

Evora 400? Interior and exhaust sound now properly sorted.
No idea if you can actually buy one though.

I like the new 718 Boxster S with a 2.5T engine. Its probably going to weigh a shade over 1300kg and with 350bhp in standard form - it should make for a fun car. Also, i'm sure they'll be mapping options to take it to 400+
This is probably where i'll go after my MR.

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
Well I don't have the budget for those options but since my MR I had a 330i (nice but dull), an e 39 m5 (great), a mk7 golf R and now I'm back in a MC. To me there's nothing else at the price point that is as much fun or rewarding to drive so I'm going to enjoy ownership again for a few years. These days I've got a bike so thats my new distraction, the zed just makes me smile every time I fire up that s54. Turbo engines just don't do it for me and all modern cars suffer the same problem. Sure if you've got 60k+ to spend there are some great machines out there but that's just a fantasy for the moment with kids and everything else to pay for and I honestly don't need anymore power on the road or track (not that the MC will be seeing one).

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
For me, probably in this order:
Aston V12 Vantage (Maybe an S model)
997.2 GT3
991 GTS
Though, i'm waiting for that rate rise/market crash too. Hopefully people start to re-think some of the values of certain (...in-demand-whilst-people-can-afford-to-compete-to-own-them..) used car models that should help me acquire a nicer one.

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
DBS or V12 vantage? I can't think of anything else I'd personally go for despite a couple of customers from Audi that said they wouldn't have another as the build quality was S**T.

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
Depends what you are using the car for but i wouldn't discount the 997 Gen II GTS they are holding strong money and difficult to find - and probably more useable on a day to day basis than a GT3 . and a good deal cheaper than a GT3 GenII . i keep a bit of an eye on the 997 Gen II market through the guy i bought mine from and my own searches - and they havent really budged in 18 months . the 991 being so much more has meant Gen IIs have stayed with their owners longer and there are not so many of them in the first place as the car was built during the downturn.
I wouldnt discount a 981 Boxster Spyder if you can get hold of one.
in terms of bond cars ..... why not Vanquish http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... 223861?v=b

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
Personally I think you should be looking at the 911 range, there is a 911R due for release soon, GT3 engine but with a manual gearbox apparently. If you could get one I think it would be a fantastic car and a sure investment as the dealer I spoke to said he would be lucky to get 1 in!!!!!
Finally found a Z4MC IB/Black Nappa/quite a few toys on it/

Re: Where will you go after the M...?
i think unless the OPC Dealer Principal is your sunday morning Golf Partner or you have a 991 GT3 and a 918 in the garage the chances of a 991 R at RRP are slight .
