My next door neighbour has the 991 GTS, it's a lovely car, probably a better all rounder than the GT3

Hmm interesting.. unless your buying something really rare, which means it will be pretty darn hard to get a hold of in the first place (eg cayman gt4 ) the more cash your going to put into this, the more cash you will stand to loose. Unless extremely rare and collectors sought after, cars are the worst investment idea... ever.

Would normally agree. However, there is a pretty wide range of performance car that if bought correctly in 2011/2012 would have made you decent money if you were selling that same car this last year!

Another perspective on it is that, will an Aston DBS ever drop below £50k now...if not, then buying at £75k makes for a relatively sensible purchase.

Possibly an Aston Db7 v12 or Ferrari 456 before they get too pricey,a R8 also fits the bill.

I think you would loose the least on an R8, can't see them going below £30k. Think I'd want to go for the GT3 personally.

OP - on your original list of 458, DBS and 997 GT3, IMO the only car there that will potentially go up in value is the 997 GT3.

Personally however I would go for the 458.

I'd go V12V.

Not for investment purposes, but because when you open the bonnet and see there isn't a single bit of spare room with that whacking great engine in, it'll make you smile from ear to ear.

I'm baffled how someone in a Z4M could consider the soulless, calculated, machine productdesign called Audi R8.

Ha, yeah it doesn't really float my boat, but must say I was impressed by the metal click clack manual gearbox in the V10 I drove a while back...very nice and something more sports cars should really have had.

Arguably the R8 rides better, handles better and in V8 form revs and sounds wonderful. Looks are subjective, the one area for me that lets it down is its size, its not ideal for back street or B roads.

What baffles me more is all the people listing cars to move on to costing c£25-100 more! :o

thats the problem, the market has gotten that much more expensive and to move on from this car and better in the important areas requires that level of financial commitment, think thats why we are seeing a few owners come back now and a good few hardcore owners keeping them for 6+ years.

The depreciation on my M was £30k over the time I had it, so anyone buying new would need to spend a lot to get something else again.

I just dropped a 45k in 2005 figure into a Money of the day calculator and came out with 61.5k ..... price of the Boxter Spyder 60.5k. if you can get one.

Somehow i just dont see Boxter Spyders being 15-20k in 10 years time --- I hope so but I doubt it.
