Modified Insurance Z4m

Post by tom21 » Wed Jan 04, 2017 4:36 pm

I have a fairly heavily modified Z4M and I am struggling to get any decent quotes this year. Does anybody have any suggestions on who to call?

A lot of companies that I have called wont replace the parts like for like and that is no good for me at all.

thanks

yes, would not replace the parts. Also tried Esure but they came out with a crazy price

I think you'll really struggle to find this unless you pay a hefty premium to one of the few companies who offer it, when I was trying to find the same for my heavily modified e36 328i Sport (all engine and suspension mods) I ended up giving up, as I couldn't find anyone that would do it for a reasonable price.
Currently zedless :(

So did you just take the risk with the value of the parts? Insure it as modified but in the case of an accident, replace for standard parts?

Have you given Flux a call? They've just smashed the socks off Chris Knott.

Yep. I'd have lost money in case of a bad smash but couldn't find an alternative solution.

I'm with Chris Knott, I thought they did like for like, but now I'm wondering if I imagined that.

Perhaps Chris Knott will come on this thread and pick this up ?

I found that they advertise that they 'specialise' in these cars ( Like Flux do on the Alpina forum) yet offer no more than any other company and arre in fact often worse.

Would you mind expanding on being "worse"?

More expensive, very sensitive to anything like not even quoting me as I had a motorcycle accident within the year.

Worse, as in not even prepared to quote or just plain more expensive than a company that doesnt claim to be tailored to the claimed market..

If a company says they specialise in a particular market, you would expect them to be able to broker for a multitude of insurance requirements around that particular car.

Why do you ask - are you in the industry VRSteve ?

No I'm glad to say I'm not in the insurance game.

I was only asking because all of our cars are covered with Chris Knott and we've has no issues, that said, 2 of the cars are standard, and the mods to the M are only suspension. What now worries me is that I don't know if they replace mods like for like, I assumed they did, but now I'm not so sure.

I could always get cheaper cover from admiral, but they are a bunch of sharks, and Flux, although cheap, have/had a terrible reputation, so Chris Knott seemed like a good option, but now I'm a little concerned!

You could try insuring the car on agreed value rather than like for like replacement on the mods?
