Was I right to walk away?
I went to see a Z4M today at my local BMW dealer. An 06 with 66k on it, looked like a great car and they offered me a fair deal on my S2000 as part ex. After reading up on here over the last few weeks, I had familiarised myself with the service regime and knew what to look for in the book.
The running in service was done at 1260 miles ....good
Followed by an oil service and an inspection 1 at a BMW garage aver the next 3 years.
It then had 2 oil services and 2 inspection 1's at independent BMW specialist over the next 8 years, the last being in 2016.
It has never had an inspection 2.
The sales guy assured me that this wasn't a problem as the car had a 12 month warranty.
I walked away, but am now wondering if I've done the right thing.
What are your thoughts please.

I think that you were right to walk away from that car. Service history is an Important selling part of any High Performance Cars History, there are good reasons why there are service schedules.
May I suggest to you, to try and apply for a BMW Warranty with that cars Service History. With the history details that you have supplied, I do not think that BMW would offer you the chance to buy one of there Warranties.
Best wait till a Lower mileage car comes up PRIVATELY and hopefully the car will come with a BMW Warranty, or you could a BMW Warranty providing the car has been serviced according to BMW Service Schedule.

No inspection 2 would indicate that it's not had the spark plugs, air filter, diff oil or gearbox oil changed.
It might have had these done at another time, but without the history proving such you'd have to assume it wasn't.
If the dealer says the BMW/AUC warranty is still valid despite not maintaining the schedule, then I'd ask for it in writing, and then double check with BMW themselves.

The car was BMW approved used and came with a BMW 12 month warranty, road side assistance etc. The warranty was extendable beyond 12 months if required.

I wouldn't have bought any car with such a huge gap in the history unless they were practically giving it away. Definitely not the way to buy an //M

I am just worried that I have walked away from THE ONE....especially as they were offering a good deal on my S2000, which I haven't prepared for sale yet.
I was looking to sell mine and buy in a month, but this came up locally.

Not to be negative, but maybe such a good deal because of absent inspection 2s (the most important ones). BMW offering a good deal on anything would have got me suspicious!
When buying my zed I'd have walked away too if said services were missing, being the most major of the schedule, and it's not even an M.
Also, an 8 word advert, with no mention of service record, the most important thing with these engines.
You did the right thing imo.

That's pisspoor on the service record for AUC , really tells you all you need to know about what they know about these cars

That looks like a great car, but I need to shift my S2000 first. That's why this deal with part ex appealed to me. But as someone has said on this post, why are they offering me such a good deal?
I think I need to stop being lazy and trying to cut corners, sell my S2000 privately and then find a good private advertised Z. I'm just pleased that i'd spent the last couple of days reading what to look for on here. Otherwise I think I would have looked at a fully stamped book and been convinced that all was good.

Sorry, was quoting Mr Wilks that I could see the advert. Look at my tax thread for my new car addition.
Edit- mr Wilks edited his post so mine did not make sense now
