Its your speed sensor cluster underneath your drivers seat has failed. Easy job to do yourself. It controls your hill assist and detects lateral movement of the car for the DSC module.

Part is £400 brand new. I bought 2nd hand one off ebay. You need exact part number though. I had the same problem with bmw specialist they said i had no hill assist when i knew i did.

Took me 20 mins to change. Disconnect battery, under 4 bolts for seat, pull wiring harness out for seat, pull carpet sill trim, pull seat out, and the sensor is underneath carpet attached to a metal holder with 4 bolts

Part is called Yaw turn rate sensor/speed sensor. Part number for my 2006 3.0 si was : 3452676917403. Loads on ebay, I bought one for £63. Need correct part number one. Got told before E46 M3 one would work but it didn't. It all plug and play as long as battery is disconnected first, so no need for coding/diagnostics. Light just goes off when all connected back up. If you need any help on fitting message me
