Just SORN my car
Today i jave just SORN the coupe.
Although its my pride and joy i can't drive both at the same time so i have decided to take it off the road for a while, i feel very sad
It can take 4 to 6 weeks for a refund, i think i could be re taxing it before i get my refund

I can understand why you have done it.I have 3 cars parked on the drive.I just alternate, otherwise they wouldn't get used.

That makes sense and I know you wouldn't sell the coupe because you told me so.

Re: Just SORN my car
I'm going to sorn mine this winter - I'm not giving the govt any more than I have to.
The only problem is that the mot is due in December - so if I delay the test till I put it back on the road in March / April, is the car uninsured as it's not in roadworthy condition because there is no valid mot in place?

Re: Just SORN my car
I'm thinking more along the lines of if it was stolen from my garage or the place went on fire etc - I would like to keep the insurance valid!
It's all unlikely but a possibility - this was brought home to me recently when a house 50 yards away got zapped by lightening recently - the blokes house went up in flames

Re: Just SORN my car
I think virtually every 'normal' insurance policy requires the car to have an MOT, although they'd find it difficult to refuse a claim on this basis if the car was SORN'd and stored in a garage for the winter unless they could show that the claim could be attributed to the lack of MOT - but you might find that you'd have to argue this point with them should a claim arise. If you contact your insurance company, it's quite likely that they'll be willing to waive this requirement for the SORN period but will probably charge you an 'admin fee' to note this on your policy - and you'd have to repeat the exercise every year either at renewal or SORN.ronk wrote:I'm going to sorn mine this winter - I'm not giving the govt any more than I have to.

If it were me, I'd do as Taz suggested and MOT it just before the SORN. You'll probably only lose 2 months of the current certificate as you'll get a month of the unexpired MOT added to the new one and it'll be aligned nicely for SORNing in subsequent years.
In the long run it's cheaper than 'admin fees' and less hassle than arguing the point with the insurance company in the (unlikely) event of a claim
