This has been going on for years with insurance companies as far as I know.
A friend of a friend years and years ago had her car stolen and wrecked. It was recovered but very badly damaged.
When she went to claim her insurance she was informed that the car had been involved in an accident previously and therefor they would only pay out a lesser amount.
This was before Cat C, Cat D etc and she had no idea when she bought it that it had already had an insurance claim on it.

It has. A friend of mine got stung by this back in 1992. It's why it's always got to be worth a proper hpi check

I notice how he put it on Pistonheads and not trader, might have had a lot to do with trader automatically flagging up Cat write offs in its ads these day!...................

Yup I'll bet the advert he bought the car through disclosed the Cat D status, he knew exactly what he was doing.
