E89 emergency roof release

Post by Johnbmwz4 » Sun Nov 20, 2016 9:04 pm

Hi just wondering what to do if my roof ever fails mid cycle. My E85 had the red pull thing in the boot in case of the roof fails but on the E89 I can't find anything similar anywhere. I opened mine today after around a month of not been used, everything ok but got me thinking what if....

Call a tow truck. There is no user level emergency control of the folding hard top partly due to complexity and partly for safety. It is possible with a special tool and specific process but that is intended for engineers to use.

Buy one of those cheap tarps just incase it's raining and keep it in the boot.

Yeah, but if the top fails mid-cycle, can you get in the boot to get the tarp???

Keep mine behind the drivers seat. Still in it's sealed bag and hopes it stays that way....that done it!.

My colleague had hers stick some time ago and out of frustration her husband just pushed it all down by hand after the pressure in the cylinders had relaxed.

Would it not detect a fault before it started the opening cycle? I hope so...
