So the media have just shown live on TV several tower blocks in London with flammable cladding
Is it me or is that not only giving terrorist ideas, but identifying potential targets?

Got 3 of them down here in Plymouth as well. Right by the dockyard though so plenty of armed response, assuming they got intel before any nutter gets close

Chances are it was "foreign" labour fitting the panels so they have all the info already

Sounds like the contractor that fitted the cladding on the Grenfell tower was also awarded the other jobs
Hmmmmm

I'm guessing the Local Authorities would have put the refurbishment jobs out to tender and would have gone for the most competitive quote. In the their defense why would they question the quality of the panels used as you would assume they would be to the required safety standard, unless they quoted for one type of panel and used an inferior type instead

I walk past them most days on my lunch time stroll down to the water front, at Mount Wise. Based on the armed response time, for an alert at our facility you are spot on. The boys in Blue could be there PDQ 365/24/7

The council having the work done is also responsible for the fire/safety compliance of all their properties including the materials used/fitted.TitanTim wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2017 8:58 pm I'm guessing the Local Authorities would have put the refurbishment jobs out to tender and would have gone for the most competitive quote. Same council is also responsible for budget ======= so who checks the council ???? do they even have people qualified for that job or is the safety control also out to tender ???? Fire Brigade/Service not involved unless requested.
Big question as to who actually signed off on that work stating it"s all OK, he should be first on the line up for Q"s and A"s.
Everyone involved in pricing knows the prices, what they get for the money,,,,,,or not

Maybe, but personally I'd feel much more comfortable living in something low-rise regardless of response time.
Coupes because stunning!

Not every one gets to choose though. The view must be fantastic looking out over Plymouth Sound and Mount Edgecombe. But yes I'm with you on that, I'll stick with our suburban box.

Hope this doesn't come across in any way cynical or smug, but if you have to pay your own way you do get to choose - but that's also why I can't afford to live in Kensington!

Should these tower blocks not have some form of insurance so that in the event of a fire the insurance company pays out to rehouse everyone while the tower block is rebuilt?

Cover for loss of rent is widely available as an add-on to buildings insurance for private property owners, and I'm sure it is available for local authorities too - whether they choose to have it is another matter!raymond.harper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2017 8:10 amShould these tower blocks not have some form of insurance so that in the event of a fire the insurance company pays out to rehouse everyone while the tower block is rebuilt?
